Job description

We are seeking a Manufacturing Operator to join our Cold Rolling Works team in Calvert, North Mobile County, Alabama.

Job qualifications and experience requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required
  • Previous experience as a Manufacturing Operator in a manufacturing, processing, or heavy industrial environment. Experience operating production equipment and monitoring manufacturing processes
  • Proven experience operating forklifts and cranes in a manufacturing, warehouse, or heavy industrial environment
  • Experience following very specific procedures and documenting the completion of critical steps
  • Experience following strict safety regulations and guidelines for production or logistics environments
  • Domain of basic computer skills, including data entry, emailing etc.

Competencies and skills:

  • Attention to details
  • Capable of effective communication, include speaking, writing, active listening and taking instruction.
  • Adherence to health and safety regulations
  • Time management
  • Perform pre-operational equipment inspections and reporting maintenance or safety concerns.

Responsibilities:

  • Support their 1st Operator in a safe and efficient manner to operate in their assigned roles.
  • Available to work 12 hr. shifts (days, nights, weekends and holidays)
  • Support implementation of Best Practices and Continuous Improvement for the Team.
  • Support maintenance activities as required by Operational needs.
  • Attend all assigned training and pass any required examination for their next position.
  • Maintain environmental and safety requirements.
  • Identify safety hazards and opportunities for improvement in safety.
  • Identify environmental opportunities for improvement.
  • Support optimization of operating practices and procedures.
  • Any other activities that may be required, or requested, to support the business.
  • Properly follow company and OSHA safety and standard operating procedures.
  • Performs housekeeping tasks in and around equipment and machines.
  • Performs basic preventative maintenance of equipment and machines.
     

Physical requirements:

  • Must be able to work in extreme heat
  • Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing as a minimum includes stairs, ramps and ladders) same as ability to walk long distances and demonstrate good balance on uneven terrain or maneuvering obstacles
  • Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, vibrations and dust
  • Ability to withstand exposure to elevated ambient temperature for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to work in a high noise environment where the use of hearing protection is required
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work including lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs. utilizing proper lifting techniques
  • Ability to frequently use hand or fingers to handle or feel objects/materials
  • Ability to work in areas with strong magnetic fields
  • Bend, twist, lift, stand, walk, reach, see, move, and hear as required by specific position
  • Ability to frequently preform reaching tasks with hands and arms
  • Must be able to communicate utilizing radios, phones and/or intercom systems
  • Ability to safely use power and hand tools
  • Ability to safely operate powered industrial vehicles and equipment for tasks and diagnostic purposes, including overhead cranes.
  • Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toes shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards
