We are seeking a skilled Telecom Fiber Designer to join our team in the Phoenix, AZ area. In this role you will assist in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust telecommunications networks for our construction projects. This role involves managing network infrastructure for large-scale telecommunications projects, engaging in RFQ processes, customer education, and participating in scope of work development.

The Role

  • Assist in the design and planning of telecommunications networks for engineering and construction projects, ensuring optimal placement of network assets and pathways, while ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements
  • Support third party engineering, design, and permitting firms to ensure project timelines and budgets are met
  • Specializes in centralized split FTTH fiber design and in distributed split FTTH fiber design
  • Participate in the Request for Quotation (RFQ) process by providing technical input, assisting with cost estimation, and ensuring all network-related elements are accurately represented in bids and proposals
  • Perform spatial analysis and modeling to support network route optimization, signal strength analysis, cost analysis, and risk assessments
  • Participate in the deployment planning of fiber optics, cabling, and wireless networks on construction sites, ensuring they are secure, scalable, and meet requirements
  • Collaborate with project teams and clients to define detailed scopes of work for telecommunications network installations, ensuring that project objectives, timelines, and specifications are clearly outlined
  • Act as a subject matter expert by educating customers when needed on network design choices, system functionality, and ongoing maintenance practices, helping them make informed decisions throughout the RFQ/project lifecycle
  • Work closely with project teams, contractors, and other engineers to ensure network installations align with construction timelines and project specifications
  • Attend field visits and pre-bid meetings as required by the customer or project team
  • Maintain detailed documentation of network designs, configurations, and changes
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and safety standards
  • Facilitate meetings between operations and pre-construction to advance RFQ's, engineering plans, project solutions, or routine updates
  • Stay updated on the latest technologies and network advancements
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in network engineering, GIS engineering, or the equivalent, preferably in the telecommunications construction industry
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP) is a plus
  • Skilled in centralized split FTTH fiber design and in distributed split FTTH fiber design
  • Proficiency in network protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, etc.), hardware (routers, switches, firewalls), and experience with fiber optic and cabling installations
  • Strong understanding of geospatial data, spatial analysis, and data visualization techniques
  • Experience contributing to RFQ processes and developing network-specific sections of project bids and scopes of work
  • Experience managing network projects from inception to completion, including budgeting and scheduling
  • Strong ability to communicate technical concepts to customers and guide them in understanding the network infrastructure and its benefits
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex network issues in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across teams and with clients
  • Ability to work in dynamic construction environments and adjust to the demands of different projects
  • Travel +/- 50% annually
  • Must provide a valid government-issued photo ID for verification; a driver's license is required if the role involves driving
