Job description

Security Officer
Position Summary
Responsible for the physical security of Kootenai Health's main campus, clinics, and all leased spaces, to include Coeur d'Alene, Post Falls, and Hayden locations. Assists medical staff in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors within its legal boundaries.
Responsibilities
• Works in manner that is compatible with Kootenai Health's culture and service orientation
• Patrols hospital buildings and grounds, provides escorts for employees and visitors
• Responds to emergency calls and assists in restraining aggressive patients, as needed
• Completes weapons secure and releases in accordance with practice
• Exercises independent judgment in the course of carrying out overall responsibilities
• Public Relations are a key factor of this position
• Assists Law Enforcement on campus
• Dispatching functions to include dispatching officers throughout multiple locations
• Monitors multiple systems including camera systems, fire systems, infant abduction alarms, panic alarms, building alarms, and outgoing emergency calls
• As needed, conducts searches of clients, patients, and belongings, to include confiscation of drugs and drug paraphernalia
• Provides assistance with jump starts and lockouts
• Addresses parking problems and issues citations
• Communicates with patients, visitors, providers and staff via telephone, radio, and in person
• Enforces Kootenai Health no-smoking policy
• This position works under limited supervision
• Work situations are a variety of routine and non-routine situations and functions requiring a service-oriented individual with good judgment and confidentiality
• Identifies and distinguishes individuals through camera system and in person
• Detects and responds to alarms/calls through overhead call and radio systems
• Kootenai Health operates 24 hours per day 365 days per year, operational needs of department may require that you be available to work all shifts, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the patients
• Performs other related duties as assigned
• Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
• Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
• Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
• Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
• Associate Degree preferred
• 1 to 3 years' Military, Law Enforcement or Security background preferred
• Health care security experience desired
• Must have valid driver's license and good driving record
• Must be 23 years of age or older for auto insurance purposes
• Must successfully pass an extensive background investigation
• BLS required
• Must maintain current certification for MOAB, handcuff, baton, and CS spray
• Must be able to manage multiple responsibilities at once and shift priorities as needed
• Successful completion of Hospital Security Officers Basic Training Program and receipt of certificate through the International Association for Hospital Security and Safest Foundation within the first 90 days of employment required
