Description The recruitment period for this position has been extended. Previous applicants will be considered and need not reapply. Juneau Pools is seeking to hire a Lifeguard/Swim Instructor to join our energetic Dimond Park Aquatic Center team.
Under general supervision, this position will lifeguard and assist in implementing and teaching aquatic programming to students aging from six months to senior citizens. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR We are looking for fun and energetic applicants with good communication and organizational skills who enjoys working with community members of all ages in an aquatic setting. Applicants must be able to understand swimming and aquatic safety concepts and be able to communicate them to students verbally as well as with physical demonstration.
WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION The working hours for this position fluctuate based on program needs. A majority of the working hours will occur Monday through Friday but weekend work will be required based on program needs. This position will assist with programming at both pool locations, but primary scheduling would be based out of Dimond Park Aquatic Center.

Typical Responsibilities The main duty of this position will be the providing swimming instruction to the public in an organized class structure and overseeing safety of aquatic patrons while performing lifeguarding duties. Secondary duties will include providing support to administrative staff in planning and implementing aquatic based programming. Minimum Qualifications Experience: Six (6) months of experience organizing and/or implementing recreation activities or an instructional certification.
Licensure/Certification: American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification or other specialized certification in diving, scuba diving or kayaking and/or training in aquatic fitness/activity as appropriate. CPR within 30 days of employment. American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification or the equivalent within 6 months of employment.
Lifeguard Training Certification within 30 days of employment. Other: At least 15 years of age at time of appointment. As part of the selection process a background investigation, including criminal records check and character references, will be required.
Under Alaska Statute 12.62.160 (9) Appointments to this position are offered conditionally, pending the results of a criminal records report (Non-FBI). Human Resources evaluates the results to ensure the applicant does not have any convictions that result in a direct nexus to the primary duties involving supervising minors.
