Cattery Jobs in California (NOW HIRING)

Cattery information

What is a cattery?

A Cattery job involves caring for cats in a boarding facility, shelter, or breeding establishment. Responsibilities typically include feeding, cleaning enclosures, monitoring health, providing social interaction, and sometimes administering medication. Cattery workers must be attentive to feline behavior and ensure a clean, comfortable environment. This role requires a love for animals, patience, and basic knowledge of cat care.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of someone working in a cattery?

A typical day for a cattery attendant involves feeding and grooming cats, cleaning enclosures, monitoring animal health, and updating records to track each cat’s well-being. You’ll also interact with pet owners during drop-off and pick-up, answer questions, and ensure all the cats are comfortable and safe. Some roles may require administering medications or assisting with cat socialization and enrichment activities. The work is hands-on and can be physically demanding, but is rewarding for those who love caring for animals and ensuring their welfare.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a cattery position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a cattery attendant role, you need experience in animal care, attention to hygiene protocols, and knowledge of feline behavior, typically supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with cleaning equipment, animal handling tools, and basic record-keeping or scheduling systems is often required. Compassion, patience, and strong communication skills set top candidates apart in this role. These abilities ensure cats receive proper care and create a safe, welcoming environment for both animals and their owners.
