Theology Teacher - ECHO Program (Grades 7-12)
Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal the Theology Teacher fosters students' spiritual, moral, and intellectual growth by teaching the Catholic faith with fidelity to the teachings of the Church. Through engaging instruction, prayer, and witness, the teacher helps students develop a deeper relationship with Christ and a lifelong commitment to living the Gospel.
Essential Functions
  • Develops and implements a theology curriculum that is faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church and aligned with diocesan curriculum standards and the mission of the school.
  • Fosters a classroom environment that is safe, welcoming, faith-filled, and conducive to student learning, spiritual growth, and respectful dialogue.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials that engage students in the study of Sacred Scripture, Catholic doctrine, Church history, morality, prayer, and the sacraments while encouraging critical thinking and personal faith formation.
  • Teaches Catholic theology in a manner that deepens students' understanding of the faith and encourages them to integrate Gospel values into their daily lives.
  • Promotes students' appreciation for the richness of the Catholic tradition while fostering respect for the dignity of every person and an understanding of the universal Church.
  • Provides opportunities for students to participate in prayer, liturgical celebrations, service learning, retreats, and other experiences that support their spiritual development.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and faith formation, adapting instructional methods to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including those with identified learning accommodations.
  • Models Christian discipleship by demonstrating professional conduct, ethical decision-making, and a commitment to the teachings and values of the Catholic Church.
  • Continues professional and spiritual growth by participating in diocesan formation opportunities, educational workshops, retreats, and other professional development activities.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of student achievement, attendance, and other required documentation in accordance with school policies and applicable regulations.
  • Encourages meaningful communication and collaboration with parents and guardians regarding student academic progress, spiritual development, and classroom expectations.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior that reflect Christian values, promote mutual respect, and support a positive learning environment.
  • Collaborates with campus ministry, theology colleagues, administrators, and other faculty members to support the school's Catholic identity and mission, participating actively in faculty meetings, committees, and school-wide faith initiatives.
  • Selects and maintains appropriate instructional resources, technology, and materials that support theology instruction and foster student engagement.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.

Qualifications Profile
  • Certification/License:
