Seasonal Catering Barista (SCB)

Department: Catering Operations
Location: New York City & Surrounding Areas
Employment Classification: Seasonal, On-Call (Non-Exempt)
Compensation: $25.00 per hourย 

Position Overview

Joe Coffee is seeking experienced baristas to join our Catering Operations team as Seasonal Catering Baristas (SCBs). This is a seasonal, on-call position designed to support client events throughout New York City and surrounding areas.

This role is ideal for professional baristas seeking supplemental income during peak event seasons. SCBs are scheduled on an as-needed basis aligned with client bookings. Hours are not guaranteed and will fluctuate based on business demand.

SCBs are responsible for maintaining coffee quality standards, delivering exceptional hospitality, and representing the Joe Coffee brand in a professional and engaging manner during events.

Employment Status & Scheduling
  • This is a seasonal, on-call, non-exempt position
  • Hours are not guaranteed and are dependent on event bookings
  • Shifts are offered to the seasonal pool as events are confirmed
  • Shift acceptance is voluntary and typically first-come, first-served
  • Once a shift is accepted, attendance is required unless otherwise approved by management
  • Peak seasons generally include Marchโ€“June and Septemberโ€“December
  • Reduced shift availability is typical in January - February and July - August.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Hospitality & Brand Representation
  • Provide professional, courteous, and engaging guest service at all events
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere aligned with Joe Coffeeโ€™s hospitality standards
  • Represent the Joe Coffee brand with professionalism, confidence, and reliability
  • Manage guest expectations respectfully and efficiently in high-volume environments
Coffee Preparation & Service Standards
  • Prepare and serve espresso, drip coffee, and specialty beverages to company quality standards
  • Demonstrate advanced espresso dialing and milk-texturing techniques to company standard
  • Consistently execute latte artย 
  • Maintain efficient workflow in non-traditional event settings
  • Ensure service stations remain clean, organized, and compliant with New York City Department of Health regulations
Event Operations & Coordination
  • Arrive punctually and prepared for scheduled events
  • Collaborate with Catering Events Managers and Team Leads to ensure smooth execution
  • Communicate equipment needs, operational concerns, or client issues promptly
  • Assist with setup, breakdown, packing, and transport of equipment as needed
  • Use company-designated communication platforms (e.g., Google Chat) for shift coordination
Team Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with team members to maintain service quality and efficiency
  • Provide constructive support to peers when appropriate
  • Maintain professional communication with event staff, clients, and internal team members

Compensation & Legal Compliance

  • This is a non-exempt position eligible for overtime in accordance with federal, state, and local laws
  • Compensation is hourly
  • Seasonal employees are subject to all applicable company policies and employment laws

Physical Requirements

This position requires:
