Job description

The Category Assistant partners closely with the Category Merchant to execute merchandising strategies while providing data-driven insights that inform category decisions. This role ensures flawless execution of pricing, promotions, assortment, and inventory initiatives while supporting analysis that drives improved sales, margin, and inventory productivity.
The Category Assistant acts as the operational and analytical engine of the category-managing day-to-day merchandising processes, supporting vendor engagement, and coordinating cross-functional execution. The role plays a critical part in translating strategy into results while building foundational commercial acumen.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Execute merchandising operations including SKU setup, maintenance, promotions, and discontinuations. Manage timelines and ensure flawless execution across systems and teams.
  • Support pricing and promotions through analysis, execution, and vendor funding tracking. Evaluate promotional performance and provide insights.
  • Analyze sales, margin, and inventory data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities. Provide reporting and insights to support decision-making.
  • Support forecasting and inventory management by partnering with supply chain and monitoring inventory health including excess and aged stock.
  • Support assortment planning and SKU lifecycle management including onboarding, rationalization, and product data integrity.
  • Coordinate with vendors and cross-functional partners to support execution of category plans and initiatives.

Education and Experience:

  • Level of Formal Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Area of Study: Business Administration, Marketing, Merchandising
  • Minimum Years of Experience: 2 in merchandising, retail, or analytical roles
  • Technical Competencies & Information Systems: 
  • Intermediate PC software skills using Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical and Excel skills
  • Problem-solving and time management
  • Basic commercial acumen
  • Effective communication and collaboration
  • Attention to detail and execution discipline
