JOB SUMMARY


The Field Service Technician - Paving is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing paving equipment in our at customer job sites/locations.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Troubleshoots and repairs CAT paving products, including Pavers, Mills, Reclaimers, and Asphalt Compactors
  • Ensures exceptional levels of communication and support in fast paced high stress environment
  • Timely communication with customers and service coordinators on updates regarding repairs, parts, and other concerns
  • Works with the Service Department, Product Support Representatives, and Sales Department to meet all the customer's needs
  • Complete service reports on time
  • Maintain excellent customer support
  • Applies electrical and hydraulic schematics to repair work
  • Removes, repairs, and installs major components in varying configurations of equipment
  • Maintains tooling
  • Makes decisions in the field on warranty repair and guidelines, communicating with the customer and service coordinator
  • Stays current with and applies applicable Caterpillar updates to paving equipment
  • Maintains a safe work environment and complies with Company Safety Policy on PPE and inspections
  • Maintains service truck
  • Other duties as assigned by manager

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or (GED) equivalent
  • Well-rounded knowledge of paving equipment (5+ years of mechanical/repair experience)
  • Technical training in diesel engines required; Prior experience with Caterpillar equipment is preferred
  • Must be proficient in the use of a computer and related software (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Valid driver's license and a safe driving record
  • Able to work varying shifts as necessary, including weekends and holidays
  • Maintain a tool inventory sufficient to perform assigned tasks

JOB FACTS

  • Work Schedule: 9am - 5 pm Monday - Friday; Schedule could vary depending on customer needs (i.e, traveling to job sites or customer locations, emergency calls, etc.)
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to occasionally lift 75 pounds from floor to chest. The employee must have the ability to reach and use the arms within a full range of motion in order to retrieve stocked parts. The employee must have the ability to endure prolonged stooping, kneeling, crouching and squatting while performing mechanical operations. The employee must be able to exert push/pull forces with the arms in order to use various wrenches and tools. The employee must be able to endure prolonged forward and overhead arm positions while performing mechanical operations. The employee must be able to use the hands to grasp hand tools and parts. The employee must have the ability to climb onto and operate equipment. The employee must have the ability to operate and maintain a field service vehicle with GVW of less than 26,000 lbs.
  • Work Environment: Employee regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts. May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity. Noise level may be loud at times. Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment. Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment. Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, with occasional loudness when equipment is running.
