Job description

The Retail & Catering Associate II serves as an experienced hospitality professional who provides advanced operational support for Georgia Military College Dining Services. In addition to performing food preparation, cooking, customer service, retail, catering, and event responsibilities, this position serves as a lead associate by assisting with event coordination, mentoring Retail & Catering Associate I employees, reinforcing departmental standards, and supporting the successful execution of retail operations, catered events, and daily dining support.

Employees in this position serve as ambassadors for Georgia Military College Dining Services and are expected to consistently demonstrate professionalism, maintain a polished appearance, and provide exceptional hospitality and customer service while representing the College. Retail & Catering Associate II employees are expected to demonstrate proficiency across multiple operational areas and may be assigned to retail food service, catering events, concessions, Top Dawg Diner, Bulldog Café, special events, or other Dining Services operations based on departmental needs. This position represents the advanced associate level within the Retail & Catering career progression and prepares employees for future leadership opportunities through increased responsibility, initiative, and operational expertise.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Advanced Retail & Catering Operations & Event Leadership – Assists in coordinating and executing retail operations, catered events, concessions, and special functions by leading event setup, food presentation, buffet displays, serving stations, beverage service, equipment preparation, and event breakdown. Helps ensure all retail and catering operations are professionally prepared, visually appealing, and executed with exceptional hospitality. Serves as the lead associate during assigned events or retail operations as delegated.
  • Employee Training & Hospitality Excellence – Assists with onboarding, training, mentoring, and coaching Retail & Catering Associate I employees. Reinforces departmental SOPs, customer service expectations, event standards, and hospitality best practices while promoting teamwork, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Food Preparation, Retail Operations & Dining Support – Performs advanced food preparation, cooking, food presentation, retail food service, concessions support, inventory replenishment, and operational responsibilities. Assists with opening and closing procedures, equipment readiness, inventory organization, and retail merchandising. Provides operational support to Top Dawg Diner, Bulldog Café, retail locations, catering events, and other Dining Services operations as assigned.
  • Customer Service, Hospitality & Professionalism – Delivers exceptional hospitality by interacting professionally, courteously, and respectfully with students, faculty, staff, alumni, visitors, and guests. Anticipates customer needs, resolves routine service concerns, maintains attractive food and event presentation, and consistently demonstrates professionalism, a polished appearance, and outstanding customer service while representing Georgia Military College Dining Services.
  • Continuous Improvement & Leadership Development – Demonstrates initiative by identifying opportunities to improve retail operations, catering services, event execution, customer satisfaction, and workflow. Participates in cross-training, accepts increased responsibility, and develops the leadership skills necessary for advancement to Retail & Catering Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or GED preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training, certifications, and directly related experience may be considered in lieu of the stated educational requirement.

  • An equivalent combination of education, professional training, certifications, and directly related experience may be considered in lieu of the stated minimum qualifications. 
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in catering, hospitality, food service, retail food service, banquet service, or a related customer service environment. Demonstrated proficiency in food preparation, catering operations, event execution, and customer service with the ability to work independently and assist in leading operational activities.
  • An equivalent combination of education, professional training, certifications, and directly related experience may be considered in lieu of the stated minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or GED with additional food service, culinary, hospitality, or customer service training. 
  • Experience training employees, coordinating catered events, supporting retail operations, assisting with inventory management, opening and closing procedures, and working in a high-volume hospitality or food service environment.
  • ServSafe Food Handler or ServSafe Manager Certification
  • Retail merchandising experience
  • Cash handling experience
  • Ability to lift and transport catering equipment and supplies
  • Inventory management experience
  • Point-of-sale (POS) experience
