What is Cat 5 cabling?

Cat 5 cabling, short for Category 5 cabling, is a type of twisted pair cable used for Ethernet networks and telecommunications. It supports data transmission speeds up to 100 Mbps and frequencies up to 100 MHz, making it suitable for most basic networking needs. Cat 5 cables are commonly used to connect computers, routers, switches, and other networking devices. Although newer standards like Cat 5e and Cat 6 offer improved performance, Cat 5 cabling is still found in many older installations.
