What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Cast and Crew member, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Cast and Crew member, you need a foundational understanding of film or theater production, relevant experience or training in your specialty (such as acting, lighting, sound, or set design), and often a portfolio or resume showcasing prior work. Familiarity with industry-standard equipment, software (like Final Draft, Pro Tools, or lighting consoles), and safety certifications are commonly required. Strong teamwork, adaptability, and effective communication are crucial soft skills in this collaborative environment. These abilities ensure smooth production processes, high-quality results, and a positive working atmosphere essential for successful creative projects.

What are cast and crew in film and television production?

Cast refers to the actors who perform roles in a film, television show, or theater production, bringing characters to life on screen or stage. Crew members are the professionals who work behind the scenes to support the production, including directors, camera operators, lighting technicians, set designers, and many others. Both cast and crew play essential roles in creating and delivering the final production, with the cast focusing on performance and the crew handling technical, logistical, and creative support.

How do cast and crew members typically collaborate during a film or television production?

Cast and crew members work closely together throughout a production, with clear communication and teamwork being essential to success. The cast (actors and performers) rely on the crew (such as directors, camera operators, and lighting technicians) to create the right environment for their performances, while the crew depends on the cast to deliver their roles effectively. Regular meetings, rehearsals, and on-set briefings help ensure everyone is aligned on the creative vision and daily objectives. This collaborative dynamic not only fosters a supportive work environment but also contributes to the overall quality and efficiency of the production.

Reporting to the Director of Smosh Pit, this position blends creativity, coordination, and comedic instinct to support the day-to-day production of flagship Smosh Pit content. Ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative, fast-moving creative environment and loves creating compelling content as much as they love making people laugh.

  • Collaborate Across Teams - Maintain strong communication with cast, crew, post-production, and channel leadership to keep creative and production priorities aligned.
  • Support Branded Integrations - Partner with Brand Partnerships and Production teams to bring sponsored content to life while ensuring integrations feel authentic to Smosh Pit's voice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of experience producing digital content, especially comedy, creator-led formats, or large-scale unscripted productions
  • Background or training in improvisation, comedy, performance, or entertainment production
  • Confident directing talent and collaborating with cast, crew, editors, and freelance creatives
  • Strong awareness of pop culture, internet trends, and the evolving YouTube and digital media landscape
