Shift Options: M-F, rotating every other weekend required

  • 6am-2:30pm

Position Summary:
The Food Services Associate is responsible for assisting the Food Service leadership team in implementing a world-class quality food service program.  This position is responsible for participating in the daily production and serving of food for patients, staff, and visitors in the floor bistros and/or main cafeteria including serving meals from a cafeteria-style line, operating a cash register, preparing food items on a griddle and/or fryer, preparing and assembling ingredients for hot and cold food items, setting up/restocking serving areas, cleaning assigned areas, assembling and delivering nourishments, helping wash dishes and/or pots and pans.
Position Requirements:

  • Licensure/Certification/Registrations:None
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.          
  • Experience:Cashier and/or computer experience preferred.  One 1-3 years of foodservice experience preferred.
  • Skills & Abilities: Strong written and verbal communication skills required.  Ability to read and write in English and perform basic arithmetic calculations.  Maintain strong interpersonal skills and ability to build cooperative working relationships with all staff members, patient, families, and visitors required. Strong ability to work as a team.  Adhere to Hospital and department specific safety standards and guidelines.  Demonstrate exceptional customer service and interact effectively with patients, families, visitors, staff. 
Essential Functions:
  • Prepare serving area for meal service including setting up salad bar, deli, grill/fryer, fruit, beverages, snacks, dessert, steam table area, oatmeal/soup, condiments, and paper supplies.  Obtain utensils needed for serving correct portion size.  Restock all food/supplies during and after service, as needed.
  • Batch cook grill and fryer items for maximum quality and minimum waste.
  • Serve patients, staff, and visitors their meals including making the effort to meet special requests.
  • Assist patients during meal service, as needed including but not limited to obtaining harder to reach items, opening cartons, and cutting meat.
  • Operate cash register by accurately ringing up all items the customer is wanting as soon as they are ready to check out, so their wait is minimized.  Processes credit cards, payroll deduct, meal cards, and cash transactions.  Accurately makes change.  Setup/close cash drawer by counting money and following departmental procedures including completing cash reconciliation sheet.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitized service area at all times.  Bus, clean, and sanitize tables after meals are served.  Clean assigned serving area and equipment including cabinets, counters, fryer, grill, refrigerator/freezers, carts, and beverage dispensers.  Filter fryer grease.  Clean and fill salt/pepper and sugar shakers.
  • Prepare, measure, and assemble ingredients for cold food items including washing, peeling, and cutting fruit; washing and preparing lettuce and tomatoes for deli sandwiches; slicing meat and cheese; and any other items needed for salad bar, deli, or Grab ‘N Go items.  Prepare salad bar, fruit, Grab ‘N Go salads and/or sandwiches.  Operate food slicer, food processor, blender, and mixers.
  • Prepare, measure, and assemble ingredients for hot food production including washing, peeling, and cutting fresh vegetables and cutting/slicing raw meat or any other tasks related to hot food production.  Pull meat out of freezer, label and date, and place in cooler.  Put food items in oven, put timer on oven, pull food items out of oven.
  • Evenly cut and place desserts on plates, so it is ready for service ensuring that all pieces look attractive.
  • Make, assemble, and deliver patient nourishments/snacks. Take nursing supply inventory.  Assemble and deliver nursing supplies.
