About the Role

As a Cash Application Specialist at Zekelman Industries, you will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely application of customer payments while supporting efficient accounts receivable operations. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and excellent organizational abilities, offering the opportunity to contribute directly to financial accuracy, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency.

You will collaborate with the Finance, Accounts Receivable, and Banking teams to ensure customer payments, reconciliations, and financial records are processed accurately and in accordance with company policies. This is a full-time, onsite role located in Chicago, IL.

What You'll Do

  • Apply lockbox and wire remittances daily to ensure accurate and timely customer payment processing.

  • Research unapplied cash transactions and customer payment histories to resolve discrepancies.

  • Prepare and upload ACH payment files while maintaining accurate customer ACH information.

  • Perform accounts receivable activities related to cash application and payment processing.

  • Reconcile and maintain banking deposit logs while importing data into the company's deposit reconciliation system.

  • Generate deposit log analyses and financial reports to support business needs.

  • Maintain required documentation and approvals to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance cash application accuracy and efficiency.

  • Lead and promote healthy and safe work practices as required by regulatory agencies and Company policy.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Who You Are

  • 3-5 years of experience in cash application, accounts receivable, or a related accounting role.

  • Experience working within an SAP environment preferred.

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.

  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
