Job description

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks Prince George County offers an attractive benefits package and manageable caseloads in Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigations/Family Assessments and CPS In-Home/Prevention. Manageable caseloads allow for greater flexibility with schedules, increased engagement with families and better work-life balance. The agency strongly believes in prevention, safety and keeping families intact whenever possible. After hours on-call is reasonable and manageable, averaging one week every six to eight weeks. Prince George County is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Manager III, Social Services Case Management.

The position will be assigned to the CPS/Prevention Team with the responsibility of investigating child abuse and neglect, assessing client needs, counseling, and assisting clients; determining available programs and services; preparing and maintaining files and records; preparing reports. Qualification Requirements Depending on qualifications and assignment you will conduct CPS Investigations/Family Assessments or manage CPS In-Home/Prevention. Provide case management to a combined caseload of child protective services ongoing and foster care prevention cases (in-home services); make referrals and coordinate services with community partners; Complete face to face interviews to assess progress in services; make announced and unannounced home visits; conduct Child Protective Services family assessment of child abuse and neglect complaints, interview children and adults; assess safety and implement safety plans.

Thorough knowledge of social, economic and health problems; thorough knowledge of social institutions and the methods of the helping process; thorough knowledge of child abuse, policies and procedures; thorough knowledge of intervention and treatment techniques; general knowledge of individual and group behavior; ability to identify social problems and needs to assess the ability of individuals and families to utilize services in problem-solving; some knowledge of safety measures for protection of self in hostile situations; ability to plan and organize work and to understand and interpret laws, policies and regulations; ability to communicate and establish effective working relationships with clients, associates, other professional and technical staff, social agencies and the general public; ability to prepare reports and maintain records. Provide rotating coverage for child welfare on-call by being available after hours by phone or responding in person as needed according to state law and local policy and procedures. Special Requirements Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in social work, human services, or related field and considerable local social services agency experience.
