Job description

Business Development & Sales Representative

Carpet City Flooring Center - Marshfield, WI Marshfield, Wisconsin, United States

About this position Turn Conversations into Customers. Build Relationships into Business.

Carpet City Flooring Center is looking for a motivated salesperson to join our Marshfield team and help us grow.

This is an in-office/showroom-based sales position with a strong focus on business development. You'll work with customers who come into our showroom, but we're looking for someone who is equally motivated to create the next opportunity.

That means picking up the phone. Following up on a quote. Reconnecting with a past customer. Introducing yourself to a property manager or builder. Asking for a referral. Identifying a local business that could benefit from working with usโ€”and starting the conversation.

Youโ€™ll have the resources and stability of an established flooring showroom behind you while having the opportunity to develop your own customers, grow your sales, and increase your earning potential.

Potential customers include homeowners, property managers, assisted and senior living communities, builders, remodelers, local businesses, small commercial properties, and other organizations with ongoing flooring needs.

On-Target Earnings: $50,000โ€“$80,000+

This position pays the higher of base pay or earned commission, providing the security of a guaranteed base with the opportunity to earn more as your sales grow.

Compensation:

$50,000 - $80,000

Responsibilities: Create & Develop Business
  • Identify and pursue new customers and sales opportunities

  • Build relationships with property managers, builders, remodelers, senior living communities, local businesses, and other potential accounts

  • Generate opportunities through phone calls, email, referrals, networking, and consistent follow-up

  • Reconnect with previous customers to generate repeat and referral business

  • Turn new contacts into appointments, quotes, and long-term customer relationships

  • Maintain relationships with existing customers and look for additional opportunities to serve them

  • Consistently manage and follow up on leads, quotes, and open opportunities

  • Build and maintain an active sales pipeline

Help Customers from Selection Through Installation
  • Welcome and assist customers in our Racine showroom

  • Learn about each customer's project, style, timeline, and budget

  • Help customers select flooring products that fit their needs

  • Coordinate measurements, estimates, product selections, and project details

  • Prepare and present quotes and proposals

  • Follow up on open quotes and work to earn the sale

  • Manage customer projects from the initial conversation through installation

  • Maintain accurate customer, project, and follow-up information

  • Coordinate with our installation and operations teams to provide a positive customer experience

Your Showroom Is Your Home Base

This position is based at our Marshfield location and is primarily an in-office/showroom role

The showroom gives you a place to meet customers, manage projects, learn products, and collaborate with an experienced teamโ€”but your sales opportunities don't have to begin at the front door

When you're not actively assisting a showroom customer, we want you working your business: following up on quotes, reaching out to prospective accounts, reconnecting with previous customers, asking for referrals, scheduling appointments, and developing your pipeline

There may also be opportunities to attend networking events, visit customers, or participate in other business-development activities in the community, but the majority of your work will be based at the Marshfield location

Qualifications:

Flooring experience isn't required. Sales initiative is.

We'll provide the product and industry training. We're looking for someone who brings the confidence, communication skills, and persistence needed to develop customers and close sales.

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Have previous sales, business development, account management, or relationship-building experience

  • Are comfortable initiating conversations with prospective customers

  • Enjoy both helping customers and actively developing new business

  • Are confident using phone, email, and face-to-face communication to generate opportunities

  • Understand the importance of consistent follow-up

  • Are motivated to develop your own customer base and grow your sales

  • Can build relationships with homeowners, contractors, property managers, and business owners

  • Are organized and comfortable managing multiple customers and projects at different stages

  • Take ownership of your sales pipeline and results

  • Enjoy working independently while being part of a store team

  • Are comfortable learning and using technology to manage customer information, quotes, and follow-up

Experience in retail sales, B2B sales, account management, building materials, construction, property management, restoration, home improvement, real estate, business services, or another relationship-driven sales environment can translate well to this position.
