Office Location: 601 First Street NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504
Position Classification: Full-Time Regular
About This Opportunity
As a Trades Carpenter II at Rockford, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality construction projects through a variety of rough and finish carpentry work. This position requires a skilled craft professional who can work independently and collaboratively while performing tasks such as framing, door and hardware installation, cabinetry, drywall repairs, acoustical ceilings, and other interior finishes. We are seeking candidates with carpentry experience, strong attention to detail, the ability to read blueprints, and a commitment to safety and quality craftsmanship
Key Responsibilities
  • Foster an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the jobsite (remove trash, sweep, etc.)
  • Maintain accountability of tools.
  • Rough carpentry including framing walls, bulkheads, blocking, stringer layout, involving wood and metal construction.
  • Finish carpentry including wood base, jambs, casing, hinge pockets, wood door installations, window installations, sidelights.
  • Base and wall cabinet, prefabricated, and custom countertop installations.
  • Door hardware installation including handsets, door closers, kick plates, panic bars, and sweeps.
  • Miscellaneous hardware installation including bathroom partitions, handicap railings, and wall mounted accessories.
  • Steel door installations including hollow metal and knockdown frames.
  • Drywall hanging and repairs ready for final finish.
  • Acoustical ceiling installations including grid, cutting and installing pads and use of a laser.
  • Familiarity with all MIOSHA and OSHA requirements related to assigned tasks.
  • Maintain yearly safety training as provided by Rockford Construction.
  • Maintain First Aid Certification.
  • Understand contractual relationships at jobsite to maintain the scope of work and its execution.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work with others to complete tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must possess the ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks
  • Must possess superior oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in rough and finish carpentry with basic maintenance knowledge
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints as it relates to specific responsibilities
  • Safe and effective use of power and hand tools
  • Must possess a valid Michigan Driver's license
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers, subcontractors, and project representatives
  • Physical effort including reaching, lifting, bending, stretching, climbing, and exposure to dust and noise
  • Acquire all necessary certifications for the operation of owned and rented equipment

Environmental Factors and Working Conditions
The work environment for this position is a typical office environment with occasional construction site visits. When in the office, the physical demands require the ability to sit for long periods of time. Intermittent movement, such as accessing centrally located office equipment, lifting of 35 lbs, bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing, may be necessary to perform the requirements of this position. Site visits may subject the individual to hazards commonly associated with construction. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to be worn as required on project sites and in the warehouse.
