Job description

Facility: Harbor Side Care Home

Location: Mystic, CT 06355

Job Title: RCA - (Residential Care Aide)

HarborSide Care Home is a Residential Care Facility located in the Groton/New London Area in the quaint residential downtown Mystic, CT.  that houses individuals with mental disabilities and elderly individuals that are not able to reside solely in their own homes and need 24 hour hands off asssitance. The RCA responsibility on shift is to provide the residents with the utmost care in a residential setting. Presenting positive encouragement for our residents to be as independent as possible within their daily tasks. We encourage our staff to create a healthy, safe, and positive environment for the residents and staff at Harbor Side Care Home.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist residents with meal preparation
  • General Housekeeping and Resident laundry services 
  • Administer Scheduled and PRN medication (after medication certified)
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the building/ Notifying supervisor to anything noticed needing repair
  • Developing a positive rapport with all the residents
  • Assisting the residents with medical appointments & transportation arrangements provided by St oif CT Veyo/MTM.
  • All RCA staff are to take State Medication Certification Course which is a three phase courses at no cost to employees, all RCA must obtain Certification in order to be able to administer medication to all residents under CT State Regulations.
    • Phase 1-Staff will have a two week time frame for completion of phase one, once beginning it. Passing score of 100% via online 9 module open note training course, allowing to move onto Phase 2.
    • Phase 2- is a Proctor Exam located at Carelon Health Facility in Hartford. RCA will be presented with available dates for exam to choose from, Staff will be responsible to get to and from testing location on chosen date/time. Passing grade of test is 85% of 100 question multiple choice / True or False, closed book Exam to move on to final phase.
    • Phase 3- Pass and Pour with a Nurse appointed by State/ Carelon Health. The nurse will schedule a date with the Facility Manager to come in and test an RCA hands on passing meds to 2-3 residents to ensure staff follows state guidelines and regulations learned from Medication Course Training.
    • Once certified staff will have to recertify every 2 years.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Medication Certification- The agency requires all RCA staff to become med certified.
  • Official High School Transcript/ GED/ High School Diploma required.
  • CPR/First aid certified
