Job description

Job Summary

Responsible for Inpatient or Outpatient Cardiac, Vascular, and/or Pulmonary Rehabilitation patient care and assessment. Maintains daily attendance, post charges on a daily basis, and follow-up on patient non-compliance. Follows-up Inpatient progress through telephone encounters and Outpatient progress to the referring physician through physician progress reports.  Directs any symptomatic patient to the attention of the attending physician and the Cardiac, Vascular, and/or Pulmonary Rehabilitation Staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Minimum Years of Experience: None
Substitutable Education & Experience: None
Required Certifications/Licensure: Registered Nurse Licensed in the State of SC;
BLS and ACLS Certified.
Required Training: Basic arrhythmia interpretation skills

Essential Functions

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Using time constructively to accurately perform and complete work assignments.
  • Dressing neatly and professionally according to Hospital and Departmental dress codes.
  • Maintains an optimistic and professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform nursing assessment and patient care assistance, exercise  observation and training, and comfort and safety measures that are appropriate to the following patient populations:
    • Adults - 18 years thru 65 years.
    • Geriatric - 65 +
  • Outpatient Cardiac, Pulmonary, and/or Vascular Rehabilitation:                       
    • Maintains daily attendance, post charges on a daily basis, and follow-up on patient non compliance.                                                 
    • Provides patient care and supervision of patients in outpatient exercise classes.             
    • Participates in patient educational classes and develops presentations and lectures.  
    • Maintains needed medical supplies in the Cardiac, Pulmonary, and/or Vascular Rehabilitation gym area.                    
    • Maintains and checks off the Mayday cart and refrigerator log in the rehab area each day of operation.            
    • Provides Case Management for outpatients while in the program.
  • Inpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation:           
    • Provides classroom and bedside education for STEMI, Non-STEMI, Elective PCI, CV Surgery, and TAVR inpatients, including pre-op and discharge teaching.    
    • Provides ambulation for CV Surgery patients.       
    • Provides education for CV Surgery patient families.       
    • Facilitates referrals to outpatient Phase II Cardiac Rehab programs.
  • Ensure Hazardous Waste or Hazardous Waste Pharmaceuticals are discarded, stored, and managed with other compatible waste streams in containers that are properly labeled and closed prior to being shipped offsite for proper disposal.  Initial RCRA training is received within 6 months of the hire date and continuing with annual RCRA training.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
