Job Summary

The Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for performing a variety of cardiac ultrasound procedures including transthoracic (TTE), transesophageal (TEE), and stress echocardiograms. This role involves direct patient interaction, equipment preparation, clinical data analysis, and ensuring high-quality imaging to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning by cardiologists.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality cardiac ultrasound exams using advanced imaging techniques and equipment.
  • Identify and define cardiac abnormalities; expand scope of the examination when clinically indicated.
  • Assist physicians during in-room and OR procedures, including transesophageal echocardiograms.
  • Gather and interpret clinical history to tailor the exam to the patient's specific cardiac condition.
  • Document findings, calculate measurements, and ensure accurate data is available for physician interpretation.
  • Sterilize TEE probes and maintain strict infection control protocols.
  • Perform daily lab maintenance, equipment checks, and report malfunctions.
  • Serve as a resource for peers, physicians, and students on sonographic techniques and protocols.
  • Collaborate with quality coordinators to support accreditation standards and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Implement and adhere to evolving echocardiography protocols and system standards.

  • RCS or RDCS Certification: Must obtain either Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) certification within 6 months of hire/transfer.
