Overview 

At Carbon Direct, we specialize in empowering clients to achieve their carbon management goals through expert guidance and innovative solutions. As a Strategist, Natural Capital in our advisory unit, you will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between our team of expert scientists and the diverse needs of our clients. You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality work with clear strategic insights that align with client objectives on carbon management, sustainability practices in food and land use, and environmental impact mitigation. You will also support revenue and lead generation through scope of work development and supporting strategic commercialization efforts in the natural capital sector. Your insights and leadership will be instrumental in driving impactful projects that contribute to existing and prospective clients' sustainability objectives. Responsibilities include supporting the creation of high-quality, client-facing deliverables, coordinating client communications, and contributing to business development efforts. A successful candidate will be skilled in project and client relationship management, revenue and lead generation, and delivery of high-quality technical work.

Responsibilities 

  • Advise and consult with clients on carbon management and nature-based sustainability strategies, considering their unique business objectives, industry regulations, and market dynamics.
  • Prepare and deliver high-quality reports, presentations, and technical documents that effectively communicate complex scientific concepts and findings to clients and internal teams.
  • Contribute to revenue and lead generation through scope of work development and other business development efforts. 
  • Lead and contribute to multidisciplinary teams in the development of sustainability plans, including carbon reduction and removal targets, supply chain decarbonization, and other relevant initiatives.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in sustainability practices and environmental policies in the food and agriculture sector, to ensure the delivery of cutting-edge solutions.
  • Work closely with Carbon Direct colleagues to evaluate the feasibility, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of various carbon removal technologies and sustainability projects.
  • Collaborate with clients' stakeholders, including executives, sustainability teams, engineers, and researchers, to ensure alignment and successful implementation of recommended strategies.
  • Act as a thought leader and represent the company at industry conferences, seminars, and workshops, sharing insights on carbon removal, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.

Qualifications

  • Professional experience in sustainability consulting, management consulting, carbon removal, climate change mitigation, or a related field, preferably working with high-profile clients, including publicly-traded companies.
  • A degree in a relevant scientific discipline such as environmental science, agronomy, forestry, land use economics, or a related field; or a Bachelor's degree in one of these fields and equivalent additional experience, advanced degree preferred.
  • Significant experience developing executive-level presentations (using Google Slides or PowerPoint), briefing memos, and other materials with clear narratives, along with writing associated talking points. 
  • Experience in business development and client relationship management, including scope of work development and customer discovery.
  • Strong understanding and demonstrated expertise in food, agriculture, forestry or reforestation, and a familiarity with their associated challenges and opportunities. Preference for experience in food and agriculture. 
  • Strong understanding of sustainability frameworks, industry standards, and environmental regulations, including science-based targets (i.e., via SBTi), greenhouse gas accounting methodologies (e.g., GHG Protocol), sustainable development goals (SDGs), and climate action frameworks (e.g., Paris Agreement).
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful sustainability strategies for diverse clients, ideally within sectors such as professional services, energy, manufacturing, transportation, or agriculture.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply scientific principles to complex environmental challenges and develop practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to non-technical audiences and build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders. Strong English writing and proofreading skills are valuable.
  • Strong project management abilities, including the capacity to manage multiple assignments simultaneously, meet deadlines, and allocate resources efficiently.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with a passion for knowledge sharing, team collaboration, and fostering a positive work environment.

Salary

$110,000-$163,000
