JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE

The Driver, Shuttle (Class B) operates the VOALA Passenger shuttle bus, or other VOALA vehicle, and performs scheduled delivery and pick-up routes, transports Program participants and staff as required, may deliver meals to outlying programs and conducts donation collection as needed.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Transports individual program participants to and from various locations such as human service locations, work sites, and medical facilities
    • Assists passengers in securing wheelchairs, car seats and other mobility devices
    • Ensures safety of passengers, operates vehicle in safe manner at all times
  • As needed may perform Kitchen drop off for various inter-agency locations in a timely manner; assists kitchen staff with inventory and loading vehicle
  • Perform scheduled routes for pick up and drop off
  • Conducts donation pick up from outside agencies.
  • Maintains trip records as well as mileage and gasoline usage records
  • Maintain program vehicle in good operating condition, clean vehicle and equipment after each pick-up and delivery, and takes vehicle for routine maintenance and repairs
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Services for this position must be provided on-site. As a result, the position requires incumbents to report to work on-site each day of active employment.
  • Transports Program Participants as directed
  • Makes kitchen delivery as directed, assists kitchen staff  
  • Drives scheduled routes
  • Collects donations as directed.  
  • Cleans vehicle and equipment, conducts regular vehicle preventive maintenance, delivers vehicle for routine maintenance and repair.
  • Other duties as required and may be subject to change  

MANDATED REPORTER

As service providers to the underprivileged and vulnerable in our community, all employees are considered Mandated Reporters, and must report any instance of physical or sexual abuse to proper authorities.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications
  • Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflicts dealing with difficult, uncooperative, and potentially aggressive clients as VOALA serves the neediest of the needy in our programs which may include clients with homelessness, mental-illness, substance abuse, recently released from incarceration and other challenges.

EDUCATION:

  • Valid Class B Commercial California Drivers License (CDL) or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire, and clean driving record

EXPERIENCE:

  • One-year experience as delivery or passenger driver.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Food handler certification.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish or other language
