Description

We are seeking a strategic, people-focused Director of Field Operations to lead the performance and direction of all rental locations throughout Wisconsin. This role provides leadership, guidance, and accountability for the managers who run each location. This leader is responsible for operational excellence, financial performance, fleet utilization, revenue generation (rental and ancillary sales), and delivering a Best-in-Class rental experience to all customers across all sites.


The ideal candidate is a leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, understands fleet-based operations, logistics, and knows how to build and develop strong, high performing teams. You will set expectations, drive execution, and ensure alignment across all locations by coaching managers, developing talent, and maintaining high standards for safety, service quality, fleet performance, and revenue growth.


Key Responsibilities:


Operational Leadership

  • Oversee daily operations for all rental locations across Wisconsin, ensuring consistent service quality and all operational standards are met.
  • Manage statewide fleet operations, including utilization, maintenance, logistics, and inventory planning.
  • Identify and drive opportunities for process improvement, operational efficiency, and fleet optimization.
  • Ensure quality standards for vehicles, facilities, and employee uniform compliance, maintaining a clean, professional, and brand-aligned presentation across all locations.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by enforcing MWI safety policies, OSHA compliance, and maintaining facilities, tools, and equipment in proper working condition.

People Leadership

  • Develop, coach, and empower direct reports to excel in their roles as leaders, ensuring they have the skills, confidence, and support needed to effectively guide their teams.
  • Partner with field leadership to drive performance, strengthen accountability, and cultivate a high-performing, engaged team culture across all locations.
  • Oversight of the employee lifecycle, including hiring, onboarding, training, development, recognition, and performance management of direct and indirect reports.
  • Ensure timely and complete submission of staff journal reports, as well as preparation of annual performance reviews and action plans.

Financial & Performance Management

  • Analyze Profit and Loss (P&L) statements and financial performance; develop budgets and implement strategies to improve profitability and cost efficiency.
  • Set, communicate, and monitor goals for key performance indicators (KPIs) and adjust plans as needed.
  • Monitor competitive trends and identify opportunities to enhance market share.
  • Drive revenue generation across all locations by optimizing ancillary sales, fleet utilization and maximizing rental opportunities at the rental counter (walkups).
  • Enforcement of sales performance standards, coaching, and accountability mechanisms to ensure consistent achievement of revenue targets.
  • Ensure work group payroll accountability and accuracy.

Customer Experience

  • Drive Voice of the Customer initiatives and ensure timely resolution of escalated service issues.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, service quality, and operational consistency across all locations.
  • Ensure quality assurance processes are embedded in daily operations to deliver Best-in-Class rental experiences.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with fleet, pricing, distribution, claims, accounting, HR, and other key teams to align on business goals and drive collective success.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on long-term growth strategies, market expansion, and process improvements.
  • Work closely with pricing and revenue management teams to optimize rates and maximize revenue and utilization strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management, or related field.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience in car rental, transportation, retail, hospitality, or multi-unit operations.
  • Proven track record of building, leading, and developing leaders and high-performing teams.
  • Strong delegation and time management skills. Ability to meet deadlines, hold teams accountable and follow up on all activities.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to turn complex challenges into actionable plans.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in Profit and Loss (P&L) statements, budgeting and achieving KPI targets.
  • Collaborative, adaptive and proactive leader who excels in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to travel on a weekly basis and overnight as needed.
  • Must live within 30-mile radius of Madison, Wisconsin.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. No drug or alcohol related convictions in past 5 years.
