What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Car Collector, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Car Collector, you need a deep knowledge of automotive history, vehicle valuation, and restoration techniques, often supported by experience or formal education in automotive or mechanical fields. Familiarity with auction platforms, vehicle authentication processes, and classic car maintenance tools is highly beneficial. Attention to detail, networking abilities, and a passion for automobiles are vital soft skills that set exceptional collectors apart. These competencies ensure wise investment decisions, proper vehicle care, and access to exclusive opportunities in the car collecting community.

What are some common challenges faced by car collectors when sourcing rare vehicles for their collection?

One of the main challenges car collectors encounter is locating authentic, well-preserved rare vehicles, as many classic models are either privately held or have limited documentation available. Additionally, verifying the originality and provenance of a car requires extensive research and sometimes expert consultation to avoid counterfeit or misrepresented vehicles. The process also often involves negotiating with sellers worldwide and managing complex logistics for inspection, purchase, and safe transportation. Building relationships within the collector community and attending auctions or shows can help overcome these challenges.

What are car collectors?

Car collectors are individuals who purchase, preserve, and maintain cars—often classic, vintage, or rare vehicles—as a hobby or investment. They may focus on vehicles from a specific era, brand, or style, and take pride in restoring and showcasing their collections at car shows or events. Car collecting can be both a passion and a financial venture, with some collectors seeking to increase the value of their collection over time. Collectors often join clubs and networks to share knowledge, source parts, and connect with others who share their interest.

What is the difference between Car Collector vs Car Appraiser?

AspectCar CollectorCar Appraiser
Required CredentialsKnowledge of classic and rare cars, passion, sometimes certifications in automotive fieldsCertifications in appraisal, automotive valuation, sometimes licensing
Work EnvironmentPrivate collections, car shows, auctionsInsurance companies, auction houses, dealerships
Industry UsageHobbyist, enthusiast, private collectorProfessional valuation, insurance, legal purposes

While both roles involve automobiles, a Car Collector focuses on acquiring and maintaining vehicles for personal enjoyment or investment, often as a hobby. A Car Appraiser, however, evaluates vehicle value for insurance, sales, or legal reasons, requiring specific certifications. Understanding these differences helps clarify career paths and job expectations in the automotive industry.

Job description

Data Collector For Street Imaging Project

Service Measure (SM) is a field data collection company founded in 2013 in New York. We collect data where automation is not possible. We count features, take pictures, make videos, record speech, and scan areas for every detail you need to make more informed decisions. Our field data collection teams are spread across Europe and North America, ready to accept new challenges.

The goal of the project is to help collect images of streets, main points of interest and public areas in the USA. The project is performed on cars with 360 cameras mounted on top that image the area around the vehicle and store those images on computers inside the vehicle. Later, this data will be used to enhance one the most popular online maps in the world.

The data collectors will be given specific routes around public streets and areas, specifically targeting commercial districts and historical sites. Due to poor weather conditions some areas will be visited multiple times in order to collect the best quality of imaging. The project is expected to last from 3 to 6 months and will cover different data collection areas.

The ideal candidate enjoys driving, knows well the area, traffic trends, is highly responsible and reliable.

The schedule expected on the project is Monday-Friday, 8 hours/day 40 hours per week. Due to weather downtime, work on weekends is possible.

Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Driver Licence;
  • Good driving skills and clean driving record;
  • General car knowledge would be a plus;
  • Enjoys driving, within standard business hours;
  • Available for a minimum of 3 months;
  • Must have private monitored parking space for corporate vehicle;
  • Great communication and reporting skills;
  • Tech savvy (drivers will use Gmail, Google Forms and Google Meet);
  • High level of responsibility;
  • Self-motivated and detail oriented;
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check (criminal and driving record).

We would be happy to get to know you and your skills better and see how we can support each other's growth.

Please apply and let's meet!
