Description
The Springfield College Department of Physical Therapy invites applications for a full-time twelve-month tenure-track position at the associate professor or professor level for the position of Department Chair and Doctor of Physical Therapy Program Director, beginning in July 2026.
The Department of Physical Therapy offers a 6.5-year dual-degree program leading to both a bachelor's degree in health science/pre-physical therapy and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Using a collaborative and cooperative model, we are a faculty of academicians and clinicians who foster the acquisition of knowledge, values, and skills for exemplary professional practice. We develop innovative leadership and academic programs so that students, faculty, and consumers of physical therapy services may reach their fullest potential. Our service and scholarship reflect a commitment to the enrichment and promotion of the physical therapy profession and to our greater community.
In addition to Physical Therapy, the School of Health Sciences includes programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Science, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, Public Health, and Social Work. The school is housed in the spectacular new Brown Cooper Health Sciences Center, with stellar facilities, including an interprofessional simulation suite featuring all-new high-fidelity simulation and standardized participant programming; a maker space enabling a vast array of creative projects supporting health and wellness; an activities of daily living suite to promote real-life applications of rehabilitation practices; a spacious sunlit human anatomy lab; and technology-supported classrooms and conference rooms. Actual salaries will vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to degrees attained, experience, and other considerations permitted by law. Comprehensive compensation details, including any additional benefits, will be communicated upon finalization of the employment offer.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities for this position are serving as DPT program director and department chair. At Springfield College, the role of department chair also includes additional stipends and administrative workload. The position includes teaching and advising as well as participating in scholarly endeavors and providing service within the College and community.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Rank of associate professor or professor
- Earned academic doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, EdD) in physical therapy or a related discipline
- Licensure or licensure-eligible in physical therapy in Massachusetts
- Minimum of 6 years of full-time equivalent experience with at least 3 years as a core faculty member in a CAPTE-accredited physical therapist education program as well as a substantial record of scholarly dissemination and external funding. They must demonstrate experience or professional development in educational administration, management, and leadership and familiarity with CAPTE accreditation requirements and/or experience with other accreditation and regulatory agencies. Ideal candidates will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, leadership skills, and a commitment to lifelong learning. A record of professional and institutional service and the ability to foster collaborative, innovative, and strategic work environments will strengthen the application.
