Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Renal Systems Technician is a dual-specialty role merging Dialysis Biomedical Engineering and Information Technology to support six statewide dialysis units. This position ensures the continuous, safe operation of life-sustaining dialysis equipment and the robust IT infrastructure behind it. The technician is part of a team that manages water purification systems, clinical treatment hardware, specialized medical databases, and network-connected devices while providing 24/7 on-call emergency support.
Key Responsibilities:
Biomedical & Clinical Engineering
  • Water Purification Management: Maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair Reverse Osmosis (RO) room hardware, including main RO systems, portable ROs, booster pumps, water softeners, and carbon tanks. Disinfect the RO and loop at each unit monthly.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair all clinical dialysis machines used for patient treatments.
  • Staff Training: Educate support staff on machine operation, water room components, proper water testing protocols, and meter(s) usage.
  • Quality Assurance: Generate and review monthly quality assurance reports for all clinic water testing results and system checks.
  • Phone Troubleshooting Support and On-call Coverage: Provide excellent phone troubleshooting support to assist staff in solving issues. Once fully trained the technician will be included in a 24/7 on-call rotation to provide rapid technical support for all Renal Services clinics.

Information Technology & Systems Administration
  • Server Administration: Act as system administrator for multiple Windows and Linux servers hosting specialized dialysis applications.
  • Database Administration (DBA): Manage and maintain dialysis clinics' water databases, equipment maintenance tracking software, and the CyberREN legacy EHR system.
  • Device Support: Configure and troubleshoot clinical iPads (used for home programs and dialysis clinic water checks) and Capsule Neuron data-transfer devices.
  • IT Collaboration: Partner with internal enterprise IT teams and external vendors to execute technical projects and resolve system issues.

Education:
Associates degree in database administration, computer networking, application management, electronic engineering, equivalent military experience, or demonstrated ability with 3 or more years' experience required. Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
EXPERIENCE:
Demonstrated ability with relational database administration, virtualization, software support, application analysis, customer service, and the repair of sophisticated microprocessor-based equipment.
