It demonstrates a foundational understanding of project management principles, terminology, and best practices as outlined in the PMBOK Guide. Earning the CAPM is ideal for those who are new to project management or looking to enhance their credibility and effectiveness in project teams. The certification is globally recognized and can help open doors to project management roles and career advancement.

What types of projects do CAPM-certified professionals typically work on, and how are their responsibilities structured within project teams?

CAPM-certified associates often support a variety of projects, ranging from IT and construction to marketing and product development. In most organizations, they work under the guidance of a more senior project manager, assisting with tasks such as scheduling, documentation, risk tracking, and communication among stakeholders. Their responsibilities are usually structured to provide hands-on experience with the project lifecycle while ensuring compliance with project management best practices. This role offers an excellent opportunity to learn from experienced professionals and gradually take on more complex tasks as you gain confidence and expertise.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CAPM, and why are they important?

Job description

Hanson, an integrated marketing agency focused on technology-enabled solutions, is seeking a Project Manager to lead client-facing digital projects from planning through delivery.

This role partners closely with developers, creatives, strategists and account leads to deliver high-quality digital experiences. The ideal candidate is confident in building practical project plans, facilitating cross-functional teams, aligning clients and internal stakeholders, and using modern tools, including AI, to help deliver work on time, on budget and within scope.

If you have experience leading digital or integrated agency projects and are a curious, organized problem-solver who is comfortable learning new tools and ways of working, we'd love to talk.

This position reports to our Director of Project Management.

Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Lead projects from planning through delivery, ensuring work is completed on time, on budget, within scope and in alignment with strategic and performance objectives.
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for project health, proactively identifying risks, removing obstacles and driving solutions
  • Work with technical leads and other subject-matter experts to identify and manage dependencies across project workstreams, platforms and teams.
  • Coordinate project phases, reviews, handoffs, approvals and releases in partnership with the appropriate discipline leads
  • Facilitate clear, consistent communication across internal teams and clients, translating business needs into actionable plans, priorities and workflows
  • Own project planning, scheduling and day-to-day resource coordination, maintaining accurate timelines, budgets, forecasts and project data
  • Use AI and other modern tools to support project planning, documentation, communication, meeting follow-up and risk tracking
  • Drive alignment and momentum by leading meetings, setting expectations and ensuring next steps are clearly defined and executed
  • Identify risks and blockers early, coordinate or recommend mitigation strategies, and escalate issues with appropriate context and urgency
  • Partner with Account Management and Operations to manage scope changes, assess timeline and budget impacts, and communicate updates to teams and clients
  • Uphold and continuously improve Hanson's project-management practices, supporting consistent adoption and maintaining clear, up-to-date documentation
  • Contribute to a strong client experience by anticipating needs, managing expectations and addressing challenges with urgency and transparency

Experience and Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in project management at an agency, consulting or similarly fast-paced, client-facing environment
  • Strong command of core project-management fundamentals, including timeline development, budget tracking, scope management, meeting facilitation, risk management and stakeholder communication
  • Experience managing digital, marketing or technology-enabled work, such as websites, digital campaigns, content platforms, CRM initiatives or eCommerce experiences
  • Comfort partnering with developers and other technical specialists, asking thoughtful questions and helping turn complex information into clear plans, decisions and next steps
  • Experience with content management systems is a plus, but experience with a specific CMS is not required
  • Experience with digital, marketing or technology-driven projects (e.g., websites, CMS, CRM, eCommerce platforms such as Sitefinity, Optimizely, Contentful, Webflow, or WordPress)
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to lead discussions, influence decisions and "say what matters" clearly and constructively
  • Proven track record of problem-solving, adaptability and sound judgment in ambiguous or rapidly changing situations
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail, while maintaining a clear view of overall project goals and business impact
  • Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools (e.g., Jira, ClickUp, or similar)
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines and adapt to different working styles and personalities
  • Ability to calmly prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects and shifting priorities while consistently keeping others informed of plans, decisions and progress
  • Willingness to travel for client meetings, industry events and partner engagements as needed
  • We value demonstrated skills and experience above specific credentials. A relevant degree or project-management certification, such as PMP, CAPM or Scrum certification, is a plus but not required.

What we offer

  • Hybrid work environment, open to both local and remote candidates
    • Local candidates should expect to work from our Toledo headquarters an average of one day per week
    • Remote candidates must be based in the Eastern time zone and able to travel to Toledo approximately 4-6 times per year
  • Competitive salary
  • Medical, dental and vision coverage
  • Group life insurance
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance
  • 401(k) + Employer Match
  • Paid holidays, including paid time off between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day
  • Paid birthday day off
  • Flexible spending account (FSA) and Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA)
