Job Summary
Owns and oversees the US-based relationships with generic drug manufacturers. Works highly collaboratively within a matrix organization, as well as closely with the Walgreens Boots Alliance Development (WBAD) team while aligning to numerous Rx processes and strategies. Develops, negotiates, and executes strategies with generic drug manufacturers around US supply-chain policies.
Job Responsibilities
  • Creates and maintains executive-level relationships with generic pharmaceutical manufacturers (national account VPs up to CEOs).
  • Develops, negotiates, contracts, and executes Company-specific pharmacy supply chain policies with generic pharmaceutical manufacturers such as New Store Openings, Price Protection and Failure to Supply and other local policies.
  • Responsible for developing operational guidelines to ensure the execution of strategies developed by Walgreens and tactics to ensure an uninterrupted supply of quality generic pharmaceuticals at the best possible price for the company stores and customers. Serves as a liaison to WBAD to coordinate activities between the two teams. Responsible for cross-functionally planning and developing strategies to support short term and long term business plans and budgets.

  • Responsible for developing operational guidelines to ensure the execution of strategies developed by Walgreens and tactics to ensure an uninterrupted supply of quality generic pharmaceuticals at the best possible price for the company stores and customers. Serves as a liaison to Walgreens to coordinate activities between the two teams. Responsible for cross-functionally planning and developing strategies to support short term and long term business plans and budgets.
  • Oversees and directs team of category managers and analysts to execute on strategy and tactics pertaining to execution of over $6 Billion in generic drug purchasing for the company and to ensure uninterrupted supply of generic pharmaceuticals.
  • Develops plans and guidelines for M&A related activities. Responsible for providing input into and attaining generic purchase synergies pertaining to any M&A activity (e.g. Rite Aid) where requested by Walgreens.
  • Represents department, as needed, in M&A discussions.
  • Works within the global organization to manage the collection of pharmaceutical market intelligence (pricing, new market entries, etc.) and the dissemination of information to other pertinent parties within Walgreen Co. Develops quality assurance initiatives to ensure data and pricing integrity across multiple platforms.
  • Responsible for forecasting generic launches and working cross-functionally to model potential financial impact to company. Assures the appropriate use of corporate capital and verifies item exit strategies are in place.
  • Responsible for overseeing all Rx Analytical support for Accounting and Accounts Receivable questions regarding calculations, reconciliations, or validations of any Rx item Rebate, Discount, Chargeback, Claim, along with ensuring timely collection of receivables from vendors. Negotiates financial settlements with vendors for accounting disputes between vendors and Company, as needed.
  • Serves as witness, as requested by internal legal department, to represent the Company in legal matters related to the purchase and distribution of generic pharmaceuticals.
  • Represents Company generics group at appropriate industry trade shows and events. Ensures development and maintenance of positive relationships between team and the vendor community. Serves as liaison to pharmaceutical wholesalers as it relates to generic pharmaceutical purchasing and policies.

External Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry (e.g. pharmaceutical manufacturing, distribution, sales, wholesaling, and/or retail pharmacy) OR a High School diploma/GED and at least 11 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry (e.g. pharmaceutical manufacturing, distribution, sales, wholesaling, and/or retail pharmacy).
  • At least 5 years of experience directing and mentoring team members and providing open feedback including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing people as they work.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing vendor relationships and contract negotiations, to include identifying problems and recommending solutions.
  • At least 4 years of experience working with P&L concepts - revenue, Cost of Goods, gross profit margin, operating expenses and income.
  • Experience interacting with internal and external senior level executives.
  • Experience coordinating and facilitating executive management meetings.
  • Experience collaborating with both internal and external resources to develop strategies that meet department and company goals within budget and established timelines.
  • At least 5 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 5 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross- functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to 25% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state)

Preferred Qualifications
  • PharmD, Master's degree, PhD or MBA.
  • Experience with Walgreens in any of the following departments: Market Access, Retail BioPharma Strategy, Pharmaceutical Purchasing and/or Supply Chain.
