Job Description

Ares is seeking an experienced Associate Vice President to join the Corporate Accounting team. We are looking for a leader to provide thought leadership, review and support to the team across a range of accounting areas as Ares continues to increase in size and complexity. This individual's primary responsibility will be to oversee various areas of operating expenses to ensure proper accounting and adherence to a SOX 404 control environment while helping continuously improve processes.

Primary functions and essential responsibilities
  • Work closely with CAO, Global Controller, and Assistant Controller in managing the accounting function for a NYSE listed public company, including:
    • Reviewing journal entries, expense allocations and balance sheet reconciliations
    • Reviewing expenses to ensure proper accounting
    • Monitoring SOX 404 control environment
    • Preparing variance analyses and other ad hoc financial metrics
    • Overseeing quarterly update of G&A expense forecast
  • Perform analytics and derive conclusions from data to help facilitate business decisions
  • Manage a team consisting of offshore and onshore resources working in various time zones
  • Assist in managing external auditors as well as internal audit and tax relationships
  • Contribute to various special projects including capital transactions, acquisitions, and process improvements to improve overall group efficiencies
  • Identify manual processes and work with others within the organization to implement and operationalize newly automated and streamlined processes
  • Support internal reporting requirements and other ad-hoc requests of various internal users including other finance and accounting teams, investor relations and investment professionals
  • Directly support the Assistant Controller in providing leadership, mentorship, and oversight to the broader team across a broad range of accounting areas and situations the team manages beyond what has been already listed
  • Other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications

Education:

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required; an advanced degree is considered a plus.
  • CPA or CA required.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience in accounting
  • Both public and private accounting experience preferred
  • Minimum 5 years in a similar capacity
  • Financial services industry experience preferred
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems, preferably Oracle Fusion
  • Experience with Power BI or other business intelligence tools a plus
  • Experience utilizing AI tools such as Copilot and ChatGPT in day-to-day activities preferred

Reporting Relationships

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.

$165,000 - $185,000
