The opportunity: Analyst / Associate, HSBC Infrastructure Finance EMEA team, Export Finance, Milan

The global HSBC Infrastructure Finance (“HIF”) team comprised of Infrastructure Finance and Export Finance provides a full suite of financing solutions to corporates, financial sponsors, financial institutions and governments in a variety of sectors, including Infrastructure, Transport, Logistics, Renewables and Power & Utilities. 

The team provides a central point for clients to access product agnostic advice on financing, capital structure and structured debt capital markets, as well as origination and execution of infrastructure, project and export finance lending mandates. HIF plays a critical role in financing the energy transition for our clients and we have pivoted our business model, aiming to increase our provision of financing to key energy transition sub-sectors, to monetise the transition and deliver incremental revenue for the bank. HIF consists of a global team with key hubs in London, Dubai, Hong Kong, and Singapore. 

The Export Finance team supports the cross-border trade of capital goods and services by HSBC’s clients using government support programs. These programs are administered by Export Credit Agencies (ECAs), to credit enhance the financing provided to the borrowers. Export Finance is a global team with presence in London, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, along with a number of other locations in Europe and Asia. The business is one of the world’s leading arrangers of ECA supported debt with a long-established track-record.  

The Export Finance team works across product, region, country and sectors to arrange medium and long-term financing for clients in the public and private sectors purchasing capital goods and services or investing in a particular region. Export Finance can cover inter alia infrastructure development, manufacturing equipment, marine assets, aircraft, power generation equipment, real estate and a host of other goods and services. Export Finance also features regularly in the financing of limited-recourse projects, as an additional source of funding alongside commercial bank loans.

What you will do:

The Associate would join HIF - Export Finance Europe team in Milan providing support across all sub-sectors and teams in the origination and execution of financing transactions within the region and globally / in covering the SACE (Export credit agency) relationship, as well as the origination and execution of financing transactions with SACE.

Applicants should be team players, showing high levels of motivation and strong work ethic underpinned by an interest and passion for export finance. They will also be strong communicators both with internal and external stakeholders, with the latter including, consultants, legal counsel, and other market participants.

In this role you will:

• Supporting the Export Finance deal team leads on the origination, structuring and execution of tied and untied SACE - covered transactions (this includes but it is not limited to drafting and submitting the SACE application form, reviewing the SACE guarantee/insurance policy, negotiate and discuss with SACE deals features and peculiarities to be reflected in the relevant documentation.
• Providing support in execution of mandated transactions, including assisting with documentation aspects of Export Finance transactions and review of transaction due diligence materials
• Creating marketing materials, such as pitch books, responses to requests for proposals and teaser documents
• Provide support in structuring an ECA-backed financing and analysing the transaction’s risk allocation
• Managing internal approvals processes, including conflicts clearances, business approvals, calculation of transaction profitability, capital allocation approvals, credit approvals, environmental clearances, etc., as relevant
• Providing support with ongoing administration of the existing portfolio, when such is relevant for the client-facing team, as well as with management information requirements

You should apply if you have: 

• Demonstrated experience in banking / corporate finance, with relevant experience in export finance record in managing the structuring and execution of export finance transactions to a range of clients, and across a range of ECA products, especially with thew Italian ECA 
• Have demonstrable understanding of banking and key financing/loan products as well as understanding of core credit analysis and credit metrics
• Experience in managing and coordinating work streams for a financing/transaction as well as ability to review and understand (and summarise, where necessary) key due diligence elements (commercial, environmental, etc.) of the underlying legal documentation required for loan facilities
• High levels of motivation and strong work ethic underpinned by enthusiasm to learn about the ECA financing product
• Proficient in English and Italian – spoken and written (business level)
