Anesthesia Technician
Join Ocean State Veterinary Specialists (OSVS) as an Anesthesia technician, where you'll play a key role in advancing clinical excellence across our emergency and specialty services.
We are seeking a Veterinary Technician to serve as an anesthetist in our surgery and imaging departments.

Position Overview
The anesthesia technician is responsible for monitoring anesthetized patients across a wide range of specialty services-from stable patients undergoing elective diagnostic procedures to critically ill patients requiring lifesaving surgery. This role offers a high level of autonomy and the opportunity to continually develop advanced anesthesia and nursing skills. Anesthesia technicians work closely with surgeons, oncologists, neurologists, and the Emergency & Critical Care (ECC) team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. As a teaching hospital, new employees will receive a comprehensive training program tailored to their current level of skill and knowledge. New employees will receive support and guidance during the initial training period and beyond.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Set the standard for professionalism, patient care, and client service
  • Evaluate anesthetic risk and anticipate patient needs
  • Administer medications, fluids, CRIs, analgesics, and blood products as indicated
  • Accurately calculate medication dosages and fluid boluses
  • Perform IV catheter placement, anesthetic induction, and endotracheal intubation
  • Utilize advanced monitoring equipment and respond appropriately to patient parameters
  • Operate anesthetic ventilators, rebreathing, and non-rebreathing systems
  • Provide thorough post-anesthetic patient care
  • Train and mentor veterinary staff in technical skills and industry best practices
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience as a veterinary technician
  • Associate degree in Veterinary Technology or related field preferred
  • Active veterinary technician certification preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong veterinary knowledge and technical skill set
  • Compassionate, patient-focused mindset
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and prioritization skills
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress situations
