The Point of Care Coordinator is a lead position within the clinical laboratory that is responsible for coordinating waived and moderately complex testing across multiple laboratory and clinic locations. The Point of care coordinator provides technical resources and daily direction to all testing personnel outside of the core laboratories with regard to laboratory policies and procedures and regulatory requirements. The Point of Care Coordinator assures quality testing and accurate test performance through operator training, competency assessment, equipment monitoring, equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, quality control review, and proficiency testing. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as a demonstrated understanding of laboratory regulations and procedures.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervise staff, provide technical oversight, and ensure that all laboratory operations are conducted in compliance with CLIA, CAP, and other regulatory requirements
  • Ensures that test systems are properly functioning. Maintains, troubleshoots, and takes corrective action with equipment and information systems as needed
  • Travel to each site at least quarterly
  • Coordinate training and competency assessments. Develop and maintain training and competency materials
  • Provide primary support for on-site inspections and surveys. Participation in inspection readiness for appropriate regulatory and accreditation agencies
  • Write and maintain current procedure manual(s) in area(s) of expertise using an approved format. Assist with the development, maintenance, and control of laboratory policies and procedures
  • Provide data to assist the department in budgeting and monitoring expenses as requested
  • Provider leadership for the testing, interpretation, and reporting of results
  • Review quality control for problem identification and troubleshooting. Use quality control statistics and control procedures such as comparison between methods and results from proficiency testing to identify and/or correct performance problems
  • Develop and oversee validation and verification studies for new instruments, methods, and tests
  • Order, assign, and review proficiency testing (PT) scores and evaluations. Facilitate corrective action and training related to PT failures. Counsel and educate staff related to PT failures
  • Responsible for staying up to date with new technologies and methodologies. Make recommendations to laboratory leadership
  • Assist with maintaining inventory and supplies related to point-of-care testing. Assist with purchasing functions by interacting with supply chain buyers and vendors
  • Provide support for point-of-care related information systems, including implementation and validation of new middleware/software/test systems/firmware. Monitor point-of-care middleware and software systems for errors
  • Duties integrated into all job functions:

    • Complete all compliance training, including but not limited to HIPAA/Privacy/Confidentiality/Non-Discrimination/Harassment/Integrity Statement and signed Agreements
    • Ensures confidentiality of patient information by following HIPAA guidelines and the organization's policies
    • Attends training to meet job position requirements and as needed or mandated by the organization's policies, Div. of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH), OSHA, L&I, and other state/federal regulations
    • Have regular and predictable attendance

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by a nationally recognized agency (e.g., ASCP, AMT, AAB)
  • 3+ years of experience as a Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist or other relevant experience
  • In-depth knowledge of laboratory operations, including laboratory techniques, procedures, and equipment
  • Solid understanding of CLIA regulations and knowledge of quality control and quality assurance principles and procedures, including proficiency testing and instrument maintenance
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications
  • Driver's License and access to a reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven leadership and management skills, with the ability to supervise, train, and mentor laboratory staff
  • Proven solid problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot laboratory issues and recommend effective solutions
  • Proven excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with laboratory staff, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders
  • Proven solid attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to maintain a high level of quality control and quality assurance
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced laboratory environment, handle multiple tasks and priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to perform laboratory tests and procedures, including standing for extended periods of time and lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Proven ability to maintain focus and attention to detail for extended periods of time
  • Proven ability to handle stressful situations and manage competing priorities

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $35.00 to $53.00 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
