TAX MANAGER / SENIOR MANAGER / DIRECTOR
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Job Type: Full-Time (On-site during peak season, Hybrid flexibility)
Compensation: $90,000 – $160,000 per annum (based on experience)
Job OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Tax Manager, Senior Tax Manager, or Tax Director to join a growing public accounting team. This role is ideal for a tax
professional with strong public accounting experience who enjoys working with small business clients, managing complex tax engagements, leading teams,
and building long-term client relationships.
You will balance hands-on tax work, review responsibilities, staff coaching, and client management while helping drive workflow and projects across the firm.
Key ResponsibilitiesTax Compliance & AdvisoryPrepare and review corporate, partnership, and individual tax returns (1120, 1065, 1040, 1041, 990, 5471).
Support multi-state tax filings and planning.
Provide tax planning and advisory services to small and owner-managed businesses.
Handle complex tax engagements and resolve technical tax issues.
Client Relationship ManagementManage and grow relationships with a portfolio of small business clients.
Lead client meetings and ongoing communications.
Clearly communicate timelines, deliverables, and expectations.
Act as a trusted advisor by providing practical, value-driven guidance.
Team Leadership & CoachingMentor and coach junior and intermediate staff.
Review work for accuracy, completeness, and quality.
Delegate tasks, manage workloads, and ensure deadlines are met.
Foster a collaborative, accountable, and service-oriented team environment.
Project Management & WorkflowManage multiple engagements simultaneously, especially during peak tax season.
Coordinate priorities, deadlines, and resources effectively.
Ensure timely completion of work in line with firm standards.
Tools & SystemsUtilize tax and accounting software such as QuickBooks, UltraTax, Canopy, or similar tools.
Maintain accurate documentation and client records.
RequirementsStrong experience in public accounting, particularly with small business clients.
Expertise in 1120, 1065, and 1040 tax returns.
Ability to handle complex tax work and perform detailed reviews.
Proven experience managing client relationships and leading teams.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience10+ years of progressive public accounting experience (for senior-level roles).
Experience working with small businesses under US GAAP.
Experience leading client meetings and providing advisory support.
