What is a Cannabis Project Manager?

A Cannabis Project Manager is a professional responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing projects within the cannabis industry. Their duties may include managing timelines, budgets, compliance with industry regulations, and communication between various teams such as cultivation, processing, and distribution. They ensure that projects are completed efficiently, on time, and according to legal and quality standards. This role often requires knowledge of both project management best practices and the unique aspects of the cannabis industry.

What are some unique challenges a Cannabis Project Manager might face compared to project managers in other industries?

Cannabis Project Managers often encounter unique challenges due to the rapidly evolving regulatory landscape and strict compliance requirements specific to the cannabis industry. They must stay up to date with local, state, and federal laws, which can change frequently and impact project timelines or processes. Additionally, coordinating between cultivation, production, retail, and compliance teams requires strong cross-functional communication skills. Managing projects in this sector also involves navigating stigma or misconceptions about cannabis, making stakeholder management and transparent communication especially important.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Cannabis Project Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Cannabis Project Manager, you need expertise in project management principles, regulatory compliance knowledge, and experience in the cannabis industry, often supported by a relevant degree or PMP certification. Familiarity with project management software (like Asana or Trello), cannabis tracking systems (such as METRC), and compliance databases is typically required. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills help build effective teams and maintain stakeholder relationships. These abilities are crucial for ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, legally, and successfully in a highly regulated and evolving industry.

With a commitment to excellence, MariMed continues to drive growth and set new standards in the cannabis industry.

About the Role

MariMed is seeking a highly organized and execution-focused Project Manager to support cross-functional initiatives across product development, commercialization, supply chain, and marketing.

This role is responsible for driving timelines, coordinating across teams, and ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope. Youโ€™ll partner closely with functional leaders to bring structure, visibility, and accountability to complex, multi-state workflows.

Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, this is a hands-on role suited for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments and can manage multiple workstreams with precision and follow-through.

What Youโ€™ll Do

Project Execution & Coordination

  • Manage cross-functional initiatives from concept through launch
  • Build and maintain project plans, timelines, and milestones
  • Track progress, identify risks, and ensure deadlines are met
  • Coordinate across teams to drive alignment and execution

Product Development & Launch Support

  • Partner with R&D, operations, and procurement to support product development and launch readiness
  • Track dependencies and ensure alignment across teams
  • Support production planning, launch readiness, and post-launch follow-up

Cross-Functional Communication

  • Serve as a central point of coordination across brand, operations, compliance, procurement, and sales
  • Facilitate meetings, track action items, and ensure timely completion
  • Communicate updates, risks, and changes to stakeholders

Compliance, Packaging & Supply Chain Support

  • Coordinate packaging workflows, approvals, and documentation
  • Partner with compliance to support product approvals and updates
  • Track supply chain timelines, vendor dependencies, and risks

Systems & Process Support

  • Maintain project tracking tools (e.g., Asana, Monday.com)
  • Ensure all projects are accurately tracked, updated, and visible
  • Support development of templates, workflows, and documentation

Why This Role Matters

This role is critical to ensuring projects move efficiently across the organization. Youโ€™ll improve visibility, coordination, and execution โ€” supporting faster launches and more consistent delivery across teams.

What Weโ€™re Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in project management, operations, or cross-functional coordination
  • Experience working across multiple teams (marketing, operations, supply chain, etc.)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Highly detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills
  • Experience with project management tools (e.g., Asana, Monday.com, Microsoft Project)
  • Experience in CPG, retail, or regulated industries is a plus
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification (e.g., CSM, CAPM, PRINCE2, Agile) preferred
