Job description

The expected hiring range for this position is:

$17.57-$21.43.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such the scope and responsibilities of the position, qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs.

This position is not eligible for relocation assistance, sponsorship assistance or referral bonus program.

About the Role:

Fermilab is seeking a Childcare Teacher who under direct supervision, responsible for creating lesson plans and providing the daily care for an assigned group of children based on their individual needs, consistent with their age and stage of development. Current classroom assignment will be infant and pre-toddler age groups.

What your day-to-day as a Childcare Teacher will look like:

Childcare Program Support

  • Plans, implements, and assesses age-appropriate lesson plans, activities, and curriculum aligned with early childhood development standards.
  • Monitors activities and ensures they're conducted in an equitable manner.
  • Provides direction, feedback, and modeling of best practices in early childhood education.
  • Helps foster a collaborative and positive team culture within the classroom.
  • Helps maintain a structured yet flexible classroom environment that encourages exploration and learning.

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintains an organized, clean, and safe classroom in accordance with health and safety standards; enforces emergency procedures and child supervision protocols.
  • May monitor compliance with licensing regulations during shifts and maintain accurate records of incidents, attendance, and shift logs.

Parent & Team Communication

  • May assist shift lead during drop-off and pick-up times on shift.
  • Communicates any urgent concerns or updates to the Center Manager.
  • Promotes a positive and respectful environment for staff, children, and families.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.


Essential Competencies and Attributes for Success:

  • Associate's degree in early childhood education, child development, or related field with 12 complete semester hours in early childhood education (or 18 complete college quarter credit hours).
  • 2+ years of experience teaching in an early childhood classroom setting.
  • CPR and first aid certification (current or willing to obtain).
  • Familiarity with corporate or employer-sponsored childcare settings preferred.


Applicable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Working knowledge of early childhood education principles.
  • Stays calm under pressure and manages shifting priorities.
  • Lifts up to 40lbs.
  • Frequently stands, walks, bends, and interacts with children.
