Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Teaching Specialist IV provides data management and programming support to fulfill the needs of faculty conducting cancer epidemiology research. This position reports to the Chief of Cancer Epidemiology and Health Outcomes Section.
Among the key duties for this position are the following:
- As assigned, carries out various data cleaning, management, and programming tasks relating to relevant research activities.
- Assists in all phases of research studies as assigned by the Principal Investigators conducting epidemiological and related research and communicates with primary data collection staff to resolve discrepancies in recorded data.
- May assist in organizing and conducting specialized research activities for a particular research project.
- Assists with the instructing and training of students, fellows and research staff in data analysis and relevant research projects as assigned by the Principal Investigators.
- As directed, conducts data processing and statistical analyses.
- Develops and maintains analytical datasets, syntax, and data dictionaries for research projects.

- Masters' Degree in Biostatistics or a related field, or a Bachelor's Degree plus one (1) year of related research experience.
- Experience/demonstrated knowledge in biostatistics and epidemiology, and in programming statistical software is required.
- Excellent oral and written skills are required.
- Effective oral and communication skills.
- Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience in data management and/or analysis while using statistical software (SAS, R, or STATA) in epidemiologic/population science-related projects strongly preferred.
- Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing.
- No special vision requirements.
- Lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Office environment. Moderate noise.
Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply. Prospective employees should speak with their hiring manager to determine which policies apply to the role or position for which they are applying.
