FIELD COMMISSIONING TECHNICIAN

This is your chance to join the rapidly growing commercial solar energy business. FLEXRACK by Qcells(‘FLEXRACK’) is an integrated solar company that offers custom-designed, fixed tilt ground mount and single-axis solar tracking systems in the commercial and utility-scale solar mounting industries. FLEXRACK also offers full services, including engineering, geotechnical, pullout testing, field, and layout design services to address the actual site conditions of a project site. FLEXRACK has completed over 3.5 GW of solar racking installations in over 40 U.S. states, 9 Canadian provinces and across the globe.

 

SUMMARY

We are looking for a Field Commissioning Technician, with both electrical and mechanical experience/knowledge, and a willingness to learn. As an integral part of the Field Services Team, the Field Commissioning Technician is responsible for commissioning, troubleshooting, and replacing solar tracking control systems (mechanical and electrical) of installed racking for distributed generation and utility scale solar systems. The Field Commissioning Technician will also assist customers with the troubleshooting and maintenance of their systems. Occasionally, you will assist other departments with installation and troubleshooting of prototype and/or developmental electrical equipment, circuitry, and components according to established procedures and specifications related to proprietary solar racking systems.

This position reports to the Commissioning Manager, or another management personnel that the CEO of the Company may designate. This position hybrid, reporting to the Cleveland, Ohio office (possibilty to work remote) and working hours are determined by the requirements of the project. Overtime and weekend working hours may be required as needed. This position is expected to travel up to 95%.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Being a self-motivated and responsible team player, with the ability to work both individually and in a team setting, to accomplish a unified goal
  • Being able to read and understand basic construction drawings sets
  • Possessing the ability to work independently within company established procedures associated with specific job functions
  • Providing controls and software trainings (both virtual and in-person) of the project specific system, to the customers and their O&M teams
  • Collaborating with other company engineering resources and coordinating their efforts during project development
  • Completing reporting as required by company practices and policies
  • Working closely with commissioning teams to improve best practices, commissioning and operational documentation
  • Assisting the Team with root cause analysis relating to product deficiencies or malfunctions and assist with performing preventive/corrective maintenance
  • Proposing solutions to address or prevent product deficiencies or malfunction
  • Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned by Management
  • Regular attendance, in accordance with company's attendance policy and supervisory assignment, is an essential job duty requirement for this position

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in Utility/Commercial Construction (Utility Solar experience preferred)
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Experience reading project specific construction drawings
  • Focus on the safety and quality of service, with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Electronics experience, specifically wireless communications. (ZigBee protocol experience a plus)
  • Knowledgeable in computer programming and software. (Modbus a plus)
  • Strong sense of determination to complete tasks, with the capability to prioritize work in order to meet deadlines
  • High level of reliability with strong importance on setting and exceeding customer expectations
  • Previous experience with basic hand tools.
  • Ability to lift items in excess of 30 lbs. and being on foot for potentially long periods of time, when in the field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Post-secondary education recommended
  • OSHA certifications are a plus

 

EXAMPLES OF PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

·          Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, etc.

·          Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.)

·          Able to walk or move continuosuly while carrying 50 lbs. of tools and/or materials. It is recommended to get assistance to lift items over 50 lbs. Check with your project supervisor or project safety director.

·          Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time

·          Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.) Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with requirements of the job duties.

·          Requires repetitive movement

The anticipated starting pay range of this position, which is to be located in Cleveland, OH. The pay is only displayed for Cleveland, OH is $30 - $55 per hour.

The above-listed salary range is required by the Cleveland Pay Transparency Act and may differ depending on the location of those candidates hired nationwide. The salary range shared in the job description is for the listed position and only pertains to the candidate if they work in Cleveland, OH. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to internal pay equity, skill set, education, licenses and certifications, geographic location, essential job duties and requirements, and the necessary experience relative to the job’s minimum qualifications. An additional discretionary bonus structure or incentives may be offered as part of the overall compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, dental, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
