Electrical Engineering Lead

Location: Denver, CO
Job Type: Full-Time

About Our Client

Our client is a growing mid-sized Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) firm specializing in decarbonization, energy transition, and advanced industrial infrastructure projects across North America. The company's current and future project portfolio is focused on carbon capture, natural gas processing, helium recovery and liquefaction, compression facilities, and low-carbon power generation systems.

With a strong emphasis on technical excellence, safety, and innovation, our client delivers complex greenfield and brownfield projects throughout the United States and Canada while supporting the transition toward cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Lead to serve as the senior technical authority and discipline leader for all electrical engineering activities. This is a high-impact leadership role with full responsibility for electrical engineering standards, technical quality, staffing, resource allocation, budgeting, and final approval of all electrical deliverables.

The successful candidate will act as the single point of accountability for the electrical discipline while supporting large-scale energy, power generation, gas processing, carbon capture, and industrial infrastructure projects.

Key Project Types

The Electrical Engineering Lead will support projects including:

  • Carbon Capture Facilities (500-1,000 metric tons/day CO₂)

  • Gas Turbine and Reciprocating Engine Power Plants (10 MW-100 MW)

  • Natural Gas Processing Plants (up to 100 MMscfd)

  • High-Pressure Natural Gas Compression Stations (up to 200 MMscfd)

  • Helium Recovery, Purification, Compression, and Liquefaction Facilities

Projects include both greenfield and brownfield developments across the U.S. and Canada.

Key ResponsibilitiesElectrical Engineering Leadership
  • Provide full technical and budgetary leadership for the electrical engineering department.

  • Establish, maintain, and improve company electrical standards, specifications, procedures, and engineering tools.

  • Serve as the primary technical authority for all electrical engineering matters.

  • Ensure consistent quality and technical excellence across all projects.

Power Systems Engineering
  • Lead or perform electrical system studies including:

    • Load Flow Analysis

    • Short Circuit Studies

    • Protective Relay Coordination

    • Arc Flash Analysis

    • Harmonic Studies

    • Motor Starting Studies

  • Evaluate system reliability and performance for complex industrial facilities.

Electrical Design Oversight
  • Oversee design and specification of:

    • High Voltage Substations (up to 230 kV)

    • Medium and Low Voltage Distribution Systems

    • Switchgear and MCCs

    • Large Variable Frequency Drives (5-40 MW)

    • Standby and Emergency Power Systems

    • Grounding and Earthing Systems

    • Heat Trace Systems

    • Hazardous Area Electrical Installations

Team Leadership & Resource Management
  • Lead workforce planning, staffing, hiring, and mentoring activities.

  • Conduct employee performance evaluations and development planning.

  • Manage engineering budgets, schedules, and resource allocation.

  • Support growth and development of the electrical engineering team.

Client & Project Support
  • Serve as the primary client-facing representative for electrical engineering matters.

  • Participate in project planning, execution, design reviews, and technical meetings.

  • Support proposal development and project execution strategies.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Quality & Compliance
  • Perform final review and approval of electrical engineering deliverables.

  • Provide professional engineering seal where required.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable U.S. and Canadian electrical codes and industry standards.

  • Maintain adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in at least one U.S. state.

  • Ability and willingness to obtain Canadian P.Eng. registration.

  • Minimum 10+ years of electrical engineering experience in industrial, energy, oil & gas, or power generation projects.

  • Previous experience acting as:

    • Electrical Discipline Lead

    • Electrical Department Manager

    • Senior Electrical Engineering Manager

  • Experience supporting at least three of the following:

    • Carbon Capture Facilities

    • Power Generation Facilities

    • Natural Gas Processing Plants

    • Gas Compression Stations

    • Helium Recovery/Liquefaction Plants

  • Strong knowledge of:

    • NFPA 70 (NEC)

    • CSA C22.1 (CEC)

    • IEEE Standards

    • API Standards

    • IEC Standards

    • Hazardous Area Design Requirements

  • Experience with:

    • Class I Division 1 & 2

    • Zone 0, 1 & 2 Environments

    • IECEx and ATEX Requirements

  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Dual registration as U.S. P.E. and Canadian P.Eng.

  • Experience with carbon capture technologies including amine or membrane systems.

  • Experience supporting helium processing and cryogenic facilities.

  • Knowledge of Canadian regulatory and industrial standards.

  • EPC project leadership experience on large industrial energy projects.
