Job description

General Summary This is your chance to be a part of the 2022 National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) National Gold Medal winning park system. A Camp BREC Director works at a designated Recreation and/or Special Facility locations recreation developing, promoting and operating summer day camp, coordinating group activities, training and supervising staff, actively participates in daily events, completing related paperwork. Requirements and Job Specifications Education Required: Bachelor Degree in Recreation or closely related field (Physical Education, Elementary Education); Three (3) years camp experience may be substituted for educational requirements, Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered Other: Ability to plan and organize all aspects of day camp management; Knowledge of objectives and philosophy of day camp; Ability to work with campers, staff, parents, and general public; ability to motivate and encourage cooperation and teamwork; Ability to swim; Ability to maintain accurate records and reports A Camp Director has a wide range of responsibilities, and some camps require special expertise such as: Camp Sunshine - Special Education/Therapeutic Recreation Zoo - Biology/Zoology/Wildlife Management/Pre-Vet Farr Park - considerable horseback riding experience Magnolia Mound - History/Anthropology/Archeology Functions and Duties Duties include, but are not limited to: Scheduling, supervising, training, and evaluating camp personnel-professional staff and seasonal leaders Relating programs and policies of the camp Active supervision of campers Keeping accurate financial, personnel and program records Promoting, organizing and stimulating good relationships with the neighborhood activity interest groups and others from the area Interpreting and communicating the nature of the summer camp program and its recreation philosophy to individuals through personal activity and assignments Directing major camp events and programs, demonstrating leadership techniques required for coordinated events Organizing weekly schedule and budgets Supplemental Information Work Availability Required: Full-time - Seasonal 11 weeks - May 18, 2025 to August 7, 2025 Training Week: May 25-29 (Community Recreation) and May 18-29 (Special Facilities) Summer Camp Timeframe: June 1 -August7 Seasonal position, as scheduled for day camp sessions, within general framework of 8 hours per day, 5 days per week; meal break as needed.
