Job description

We are seeking an experienced AV & Technical Support Specialist to manage the technical readiness and execution of in-person data collection sessions across the San Francisco Bay Area. This hands-on field role combines AV setup, hardware and device support, live recording monitoring, technical troubleshooting, participant assistance, equipment logistics, and post-session data quality checks.

Contract Type: Hourly contract (1099)

Location: San Francisco Bay Area, CA

Schedule: Flexible schedule across multiple Bay Area locations

What You Will Be Doing

  • Own technical readiness for scheduled sessions, from pre-session planning and equipment checks through setup, live support, data validation, and closeout.
  • Coordinate the secure movement, inventory, charging, configuration, and availability of recording devices, cameras, networking equipment, and backup hardware.
  • Lead room setup and determine effective camera, tripod, and equipment placement based on the activity and environment.
  • Guide instructors and participants through device fitting, onboarding, and calibration in a clear and professional manner.
  • Monitor recording quality, connectivity, synchronization, storage, and battery status during live sessions and make quick decisions when issues arise.
  • Complete post-session data offloading, first-pass quality checks, upload tracking, and documentation to confirm each session is complete.
  • Partner with the Site Lead and operations team to manage schedules, escalate risks, and maintain consistent technical standards across locations.

Who We Are Looking For

  • Experienced technical operations, A/V, field support, live production, IT support, or data collection professionals with 2 to 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • People who have taken ownership of end-to-end technical setup and support for live sessions, events, labs, studios, research studies, or customer environments.
  • Strong troubleshooters who can diagnose hardware, software, networking, synchronization, storage, or power issues under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Professionals comfortable working with cameras, wearable devices, mobile devices, Wi-Fi networks, routers, cloud storage, and large audio/video file transfers.
  • Highly organized individuals with experience managing equipment inventories, readiness checklists, charging schedules, session documentation, and data quality checks.
  • Clear, calm communicators who can support non-technical participants and explain technical procedures in simple terms.
  • Candidates with a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and reliable vehicle suitable for transporting equipment cases between Bay Area locations.
  • Individuals able to lift and transport equipment cases weighing up to 40 pounds and perform repeated setup and teardown activities.

Preferred Experience

  • AR/VR, wearable technology, eye-tracking, motion capture, sensor-based systems, or multi-camera recording environments.
  • Live event production, studio operations, research operations, field engineering, or high-touch technical support.
  • High-volume data offloading, file validation, quality assurance, and secure cloud uploads.
