Job description

We're hiring for a Second Shift Vehicle Prep Technician in Rockville, MD at Montgomery County Police Department!

We are looking for an individual that understands the automotive electrical system and that knows how to work on vehicles. As a Vehicle Prep Technician your primary responsibilities will be building police cars. This includes installing, repairing, testing, and removing 12-volt law enforcement vehicle equipment, including, but not limited to light bars, flashers, sirens, video cameras, laptops, printers, consoles, transport partitions, radios, speakers, antennas, routers, and more.

For this position automotive or marine 12v experience is a plus.

Transdev Fleet Services works on police, public safety and other vehicles for both local and federal accounts.The Installer must be able to perform physically demanding tasks that may require accessing confined spaces to modify the vehicles to the client’s requirements.

Operating Monday- Friday. Some weekend work may be applicable for large projects.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience is desired but not required.
  • Knowledge of vehicle wiring
  • Able to identify electrical circuits.
  • Experience w/ installation of emergency lighting desired but not required.
  • Able to communicate well with others.
  • Able to work on and see small objects.
  • Good hearing and color vision
  • Be prompt and prepared to work.
  • Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Certification is desired, but not required.
  • Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers by performing limited repairs & troubleshooting of low & high voltage electrical systems with minimal supervision.

Qualifications:

  • ASE certifications required; ASE certification program provided.
  • Mechanic’s Tool Set
  • Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.

Physical Requirements:

  • The essential functions of this position require the ability to:
  • Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions-100% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations.
  • Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces
  • Push and pull objects, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level
  • Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
