Job description

Who We Are:

Carnegie Robotics designs and manufactures advanced robotics systems and components for defense, agricultural, mining, industrial, and off-road autonomy applications. Our ruggedized solutions can meet the challenges of any industry, providing effective and efficient answers for even the toughest problems.

Who We're Looking for:

Individuals who are interested, and ideally experienced, in designing, implementing, and applying the latest robotics algorithms and techniques to assist the US warfighter. All skill levels and backgrounds are welcome to apply. You would fit right in with an amazing team of engineers from a variety of backgrounds who love to share their collective knowledge and experiences. We've had Electrical Engineers who started as interns in Production and Manufacturing, Software Engineers we found on Github, and Mechanical Engineers who started as interns. We're about growth and providing opportunities for you as you move through your career.

All applicants must be authorized to work in the US for any employer. The company is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position

What you'll be doing:

You will be a critical member of an interdisciplinary team focusing on designing and delivering cutting-edge robotics solutions to real US Military stakeholders. Your primary focus will be developing algorithms and applications to process sensor data collected in a variety of real-world environments. Some projects you may contribute to include camera based safety systems for off-road autonomous vehicles, US heavy artillery, inventory management solutions for optimal equipment management, and next-generation IED detection systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work directly with military personnel and key stakeholders to design, develop, and refine targeted use cases.
  • Develop User Interfaces: Implement adaptable UI designs to ensure seamless operation across a diverse range of platforms and user profiles.
  • Process Sensor Data: Ingest and analyze data from advanced depth cameras to support critical system analytics and safety applications.
  • Design System Integrations: Architect and develop robust APIs to seamlessly integrate custom solutions within the broader military software ecosystem.
  • Conduct Comprehensive Testing: Validate solutions and algorithms across the entire testing lifecycle-from rigorous unit testing to coordinating real-world field trials-ensuring mission readiness.
  • Present and Document: Prepare detailed technical documentation and present architectural approaches during design reviews and customer briefings.

What Sets You Apart

  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise and a strong passion for writing high-performance code in C/C++, Python, Rust, or Go.
  • UI/UX Experience: Applied experience (professional or project-based) designing responsive user interfaces on web or native frameworks such as React or Qt/QML.
  • Engineering Excellence: A strong commitment to software engineering best practices, consistently producing clean, maintainable, and scalable code.
  • Linux Mastery: High proficiency operating within Linux environments, encompassing daily development workflows, custom system configurations, and advanced troubleshooting.
  • Sensor Fusion: Hands-on experience processing and integrating sensor data from diverse modalities, including visual/depth cameras, RADAR, LiDAR, and IMUs.
  • Defense Industry Experience: Prior experience executing government contracts and successfully integrating solutions with existing DoD battlefield networks and hardware/software architectures.

What You'll Get Out Of It

  • UPMC health coverage with FSA or HSA options
  • Comprehensive dental, vision, and life insurance
  • Fidelity 401(k) plan with employer match
  • Free catered lunch every day with a vegan option
