This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Part Time System Operator I for our Long Island City, NY office. Be involved in projects with our Mobility Operations Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.
Your Impact
  • Operate various computer-based traffic & freeway management systems to manage incidents on roadways and improve traffic conditions
  • Monitor roadways via CCTV surveillance cameras and detection systems
  • Monitor all Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices and computer equipment associated with the systems
  • Perform routine daily checklist of all ITS devices and control room equipment
  • Troubleshoot system failures and help maintain equipment ticket databases
  • Posting traveler information messages and checking the accuracy and validity of the messages displayed on all Variable Message Signs (VMS)
  • Enter incident information into Traveler Information Systems (TIS) using our Incident Management Portal (IMP)
  • Familiarity with state-maintained roadways, comprehension of ITS device types, usage purposes, and locations of VMS and CCTV devices
  • Skilled operation of all ITS equipment, computers and software(s) associated with ITS systems
  • Utilize ITS equipment for incident management and travel time messaging, prioritizing traveler safety and quality of life
  • Use of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to detect, dispatch, monitor, and document roadway incidents
  • Coordinate with Joint Transportation Management Center (JTMC) partners as well as adjacent NYSDOT Region TMCs to coordinate resources for incidents that may affect regional travel
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • High school Diploma or equivalent
  • 0-2 Years of experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to handle phone calls efficiently and professionally.
  • Familiarity and ability to use MS Office applications, spreadsheets and databases
    Public, internal and external relations Work well with internal and external partners to achieve common goals
  • Must be able to type at a minimum speed of 35 words per minute.
  • Must have the ability to use digital roadway maps and have a working knowledge of roadway elements
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts as assigned, including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Due to the nature of the position, short notice overtime may be required. Due to the demands of this position, outstanding attendance is required.
  • All candidates must successfully pass a New York State Police (NYSP) Criminal History Background Check
