Position Summary
Compensation is based on 19 hours per week. If not indicated, the hourly rate will be determined by the supervisor.+-
This is an hourly teaching position with responsibility for planning, preparation, and presentation of quality instruction and for otherwise contributing to the fulfillment of the college's mission. This position reports to the Program Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Instructs in the Physical Therapist Assistant Program and evaluates student learning and outcomes
2. Performs class and/or laboratory preparation
3. Revise lecture notes and course materials to insure currency and compliance with departmental, divisional, and/or college formats or guidelines.
4. Participates in the regular evaluation of the PTA Program, including self-studies and other activities to document program status.
5. Participates in curriculum development and evaluation and recommends new or revised curriculum as needed.
6. Promotes effective working relationships among PTA Program faculty.
7. Performs institutional responsibilities and professional service which contribute to the fulfillment of the college's mission
8. Follows institutional policies and procedures and fulfills the terms of one's employment.
9. Maintains professional competency in physical therapy
10. Maintains professional licensure and participate in activities of professional organizations and in continuing education programs
11. Adheres to accrediting agency requirements
12. Performs division/program responsibilities
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Possess cognitive and critical thinking abilities sufficient to learn and perform all essential job functions accurately with minimal direct supervision.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal and practice issues affecting physical therapist assistant students, and the profession of physical therapy.
3. Demonstrate a commitment to teaching and helping students develop an abiding interest in the field of Physical Therapy and desire to help the college maintain the standards appropriate to an institution of higher education.
4. Possess the ability to maintain rapport with colleagues and students and to conduct oneself with a high level of professionalism.
5. Present with a high level of interpersonal skills to interact purposefully and effectively with others.
6. Possess strong communication abilities sufficient to convey thoughts in verbal and written form so that they are understood by others.
7. Possess the ability to effectively multi-task, organize, and problem-solve.
8. Possess computer literacy skills necessary to work effectively in online education; including the ability to use word processing programs (i.e., Microsoft Word, Power Point), email, basic internet applications, and basic database navigation.
Qualifications
1. Associate degree or higher as a physical therapist assistant or a physical therapist required.
2. Graduate of an accredited physical therapist assistant or physical therapist program, or deemed equivalent program required.
3. Current professional license as a PTA or PT in the state of Alabama.
4. Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as a physical therapist assistant or physical therapist in a variety of clinical settings with an active participation in the PT/PTA working relationship required.
5. Previous teaching experience in a post-secondary education environment and familiarity with computer-based instruction preferred
6. PT Specialist Certification or PTA Advanced Proficiency preferred
7. Membership in APTA preferred
