Job Summary The County of Mono is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Deputy Sheriff I/II (Lateral). Under general supervision, this sworn law enforcement role performs a wide range of duties including patrol, crime prevention and investigation, civil process service, court security, and inmate supervision. Deputies rotate through assignments such as Patrol, Bailiff, Civil Deputy, Crime Scene Investigator, Identification Technician, and Deputy Coroner, gaining experience across the full scope of Sheriff's Office operations.

This position requires independent decision-making in the field, strong observational and communication skills, and the ability to respond effectively in dynamic and sometimes high-risk situations. They bring sound judgment, integrity, and the ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure.

Successful candidates are skilled in critical thinking, report writing, and interpersonal communication, with the ability to build trust while enforcing laws fairly and consistently. They are comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, capable of handling a variety of assignments, and willing to take on new challenges, including specialized roles such as investigations or training. Required Licenses of Certifications -Possession of a Basic Certificate issued by the Commission of Peace Officers Standards and Training or Certificate of Completion of POST certified academy. -Possession of an appropriate valid California Driver's License.
