Job description

Job Title: Quality Inspector

Job Description

The Quality Inspector ensures that incoming materials, in-process components, and finished goods meet all technical and quality requirements. This role focuses on interpreting technical drawings and specifications, performing detailed inspections, maintaining measurement equipment, and accurately documenting quality data to support a safe, compliant, and efficient manufacturing operation.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret technical drawings, engineering specifications, manufacturing blueprints, and related quality documentation to understand inspection requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Inspect incoming materials using visual inspection, measurement testing, and documentation review to verify compliance with specifications.
  • Conduct in-process inspections of machined components, sheet metal parts, and welded assemblies to confirm conformance to drawings, specifications, and process requirements.
  • Approve or reject finished goods based on specification compliance and coordinate or verify rework activities when required.
  • Document inspection results in accordance with internal procedures and enter quality data into designated systems accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain, verify, and support the calibration of quality and measurement equipment to ensure reliable operation and accurate inspection results.
  • Support quality and continuous improvement initiatives by completing assignments aligned with department and business unit goals.
  • Collaborate with purchasing, engineering, production, and other internal teams to resolve quality-related issues and support on-time delivery objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, ISO 9001, and operational procedures while contributing to a safe manufacturing environment.
  • Participate in on-site interviews and evaluation processes as needed to support quality-related hiring or training initiatives.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience in inspection, quality control, and quality assurance within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in using standard inspection tools and measurement equipment such as calipers and micrometers for precise dimensional checks.
  • Strong visual inspection skills to identify defects, nonconformities, and deviations from specifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints, including tapped holes, cutaways, perpendicular and parallel views, and general industrial drawing standards.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements and quality processes, including documentation and compliance practices.
  • Familiarity with calibration methods and procedures for quality and measurement equipment.
  • Ability to use the metric system and apply geometric tolerancing principles in inspection activities.
  • Proficiency in SAP for quality-related transactions and data management.
  • Ability to perform accurate data entry and maintain detailed quality records.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in measurement, documentation, and compliance with quality standards.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and work under pressure while adapting to changing priorities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with ASQ certification or similar professional quality certifications is highly beneficial.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for reporting, analysis, and documentation of inspection results.
  • Experience using reporting tools to track quality metrics and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with quality documentation systems and electronic data capture tools.
  • Experience in working with ISO 9001-certified manufacturing operations is an advantage.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing setting that utilizes cannabis and tobacco packing machinery and related equipment. Employees are expected to follow all facility safety guidelines and operational standards while working on or around industrial machinery.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Henrico, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
