Under the general direction of the Cal Expo Chief of Plant and the direct supervision of the Monorail Operations Supervisor, the Monorail Mechanic performs interval service, preventive maintenance and repairs on the California State Fair Monorail amusement ride, ensuring its successful inspection by regulatory authorities and operation during the annual State Fair.

Working Conditions

• Requires working with and near fast-moving machinery and heavy motorized vehicles
• Requires working with high-voltage electricity, generators, transfer switches
• Requires working with manual and electric tools
• Requires working with fuel, motor fluids, solvents, and cleaners
• Works at elevated heights
• Requires working on weekends, holidays, and irregular hours
• Preceding and during annual State Fair, must be available to work long, irregular shifts
• Requires working in cold and rainy fall/winter and unseasonably hot spring/summer weather
• Requires prolonged periods of standing, sitting, kneeling, bending, lifting, physical endurance, and repetitive movement
• May be exposed to airborne dust, fumes, vapors, chemicals, medical waste, and blood borne pathogens
