Position:

  • Lunch / Recess Aide
  • 3.75 Hr., 180 day Contract

Location:

Reports to:

  • PreK-2, 3-6 School Principal

Position Overview:

  • The Lunch and Recess Aide is an essential role in ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for students during lunch and recess. This position involves monitoring student activities, promoting positive behavior, and supporting the overall well-being of children during meal and playtime.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee student behavior during lunch and recess to maintain a safe, respectful, and positive atmosphere.

  • Support the serving of meals, including helping students with food choices, maintaining the cleanliness of meal areas, and ensuring proper portion sizes.

  • Assist in keeping the lunchroom and playground areas clean and organized by managing waste disposal and ensuring sanitary conditions.

  • Encourage active play during recess, ensuring that students engage in safe and inclusive activities while promoting teamwork and good sportsmanship.

  • Assist students and foster positive interactions among peers to support social development.

  • Build rapport with students, addressing any questions or concerns they may have, and communicating effectively with school staff regarding any issues that arise.

  • Work in collaboration with teachers, cafeteria staff, and other supervisors to ensure seamless transitions between lunch and recess activities.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent and an associate's degree or higher in education or a related field are preferred.

  • Experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping students succeed.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with classroom management and differentiated instruction.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and engage with students and staff for extended periods.

Additional Information:

  • The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district.
