Job description

LOCATION 2855 GRAMERCY HOUSTON, TX 77025
POSITION SUMMARY
Contributes to the organization by providing recovery assistance to patients; assist patients with discharge. Other key responsibilities include housekeeping duties, assisting with stocking and placement of supplies, and providing (as needed) back-up relief and support to the Administrative Assistant position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Communication and Patient Care
Monitor patients vital signs (as may be required under the direction of nursing staff).
Properly connect patients to oxygen machine, blood pressure machine, pulse ox monitor and ECG leads.
Ensure that the recovery room / recovery restroom is suitable for patient recovery.
Assist with transfers to the operating room.
Assist patient in preparation for discharge as directed by nursing staff.
Act as liaison between patient and patients family, or patients designated attending representative(s), for communicating patients need for discharge (patient pick-up).
As directed by nursing staff, escort patient (by wheelchair or by ambulation) to discharge area and assist patient with accessing applicable transport vehicle (for departing facility).
Assist in preparing room (cleans area) for subsequent cases.
Observes universal precautions.
Participates in Performance Improvement/Safety Program.
Assists with housekeeping responsibilities as directed by nursing staff.
Pull linen bags daily from PACU area.
Change and wipe down bed after each patient.
Change out cable from recovery to pre-op.
Remove / unplug oxygen from wall after each case.
Restocking: blankets; doctor caps in recovery area; doctor scrubs when scheduled for surgery; soda/juice/water and crackers.
Make fresh coffee for family waiting area (check this hourly).
Make sure coffee area is clean and well stocked at all time.
Tuesday and Friday additional duties: Change batteries on stretchers.
Friday (Thursday if we are closed on Friday) additional duties: Gather all linen from men/women dressing rooms and recovery area; make sheet packs for stretchers; restock dressing room scrubs; lock the unlocked doors.
Performs other tasks and duties as directed by nursing staff including, but not limited to, providing (as needed) back-up relief and support to the Administrative Assistant position.
Must maintain patient right to privacy by not discussing privileged information outside the work area or within hearing range of visitors, family, or patient.
Demonstrates knowledge and awareness of exposure control plan.
May be exposed to the following hazards:
