What we're looking for

The Material Control Specialist position is a part-time role based in Rochester, NY and will focus on inventory management within the Rochester warehouse as well as transportation of materials from Connecticut. Other responsibilities for the Material Control Specialist may include customer service, requisitioning, Inventory management and all related system transactions for the provisioning of this material. The ideal Material Control Specialist takes pride in doing their best every day to deliver a quality product; anticipates customers’ needs, offering solutions for today and tomorrow; and listens to understand and not to respond.


Responsibilities

  • Must be fully trained and familiar with every function involved in the daily operations of the storeroom.
  • Process orders timely and accurately for customer’s needs.
  • Process material transactions and annual inventory efficiently through PeopleSoft.
  • Manage the logistics of repaired materials, warranty check and ensures equipment is repaired in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain inventory levels in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Unload and receive materials, including central office, business systems, exempt, miscellaneous project and Outside Plant materials including cable, poles, and steel pipe, and other materials as required.
  • Process requisitions for materials needed by employees and contractors as directed by management.
  • Handle customer needs at the counter and/or cable yard timely and efficiently.
  • Notify other departments/customers upon arrival of ordered materials.
  • Receive, clean, and store used or returned items and/or equipment taken out of service and returned to inventory.
  • Operate the forklift in a safe and efficient manner; maintain forklift certifications.
  • Maintain storeroom shelves and cable yard in a neat and orderly fashion. This includes the efficient arrangement of all materials in both the storeroom and cable yard. The materials are to be stored in a systematic manner so all personnel can effectively work in the area.
  • Drive company vehicle when required.
  • Package, label and ship materials to other locations as required. Maintain all logs accurately.
  • Assist other areas of the Purchasing & Material Control department as required or as directed by Management.
  • Perform all tasks in a safe manner. Wear appropriate clothing including but not limited to hard hats and steel toed safety shoes where required.
  • Move and/or lift weights of 100 pounds or more. The job may entail other physical demands/requirements not listed here which employees must be able to successfully perform as essential functions of this job.
  • May be required to oversee special projects and perform additional duties and tasks as required by the Company.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent such as the GED from an accredited educational institution.
  • Valid state driver’s license and satisfactory driving record, able to maintain insurance.
  • Certified Fork Truck Operator, or able to be certified within 30 days or at the earliest opportunity given availability of a trainer.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; mathematical and problem solving skills with regard to inventory
  • Demonstrated Customer service and team building skills
  • General computer skills required with the ability to operate Microsoft Word, Excel, and Lotus Notes email. Must be able to process material control and requisition transactions and perform general inquiries within PeopleSoft.
